It is highly likely you will get it too, I would suggest that at the first signs, you just kick back and rest too, the housework can wait another day or week. If your breathing gets worse than normal of course speak to your GP in case you need to increase your medication. These viruses tend to get you what ever you do, so my advice is just listen to the body, stay warm and rest. Says she who is crap at taking her own advice :P

I would hold off the rescue meds until there are some signs of infection. Antibiotics and steroids will not help with a cough or a cold and taking them too often can reduce their effectiveness. Daxiemad gives good advice about resting and staying warm. Just try to avoid breathing near them as much as you can! x

Something else you may consider. The nurse who gave me my flu jab also recommended that I have my husband and two daughters immunised as well, as if they get the flu then not only do they put me at higher risk but it will be me who has to look after them too. So this year I took her advice and we are all immunised against the flu ( and can all sympathise with each others sore arm!!)

No you must wait first to see if you catch it. Amazingly there has been times when the family has been ill yet I have not gone down with whatever it was. I put it down to the vitamin D supplement I take keeping my immune system good. At the first sign of going down with the cold that will be the time to take the pack. Fingers crossed though that you don't get it. Good advice AnnieDL. Sadly my wife refuses to have the flue jab, even though I have offered to pay the £10 for her. Going to have to have another try to get her to have it.

Hi Fantasy3

Only take the rescue medicine when you have symptoms - taking them before won't really help as they won't have a preventative effect.

If you feel you are starting to feel unwell with an infection start taking them and contact your GP.

Any problems just call us - 03000 030 555.

Best Wishes

Jo

Dear all,

Thank you all so much, your replies have put my mind at rest.

I did think that if you take meds before you have any symptoms they would be ineffective, but was not sure.

Derrylynne,I'm keeping my fingers crossed that is what happens here.i so do not want to catch it.

Love to all
