I don't have sleep apnoea but I know many on here do and I am sure they will share their experiences with you. Congratulations on the improvement in your condition.

I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea, mine was found by accident at the respiratory clinic

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

If you have obstructive sleep apnoea you have many periods when your breathing stops for 10 seconds or more when you sleep. You wake up briefly after each episode of stopped breathing to start breathing again. You do not usually remember the times you briefly wake up, but you have a disturbed night's sleep. As a result, you feel sleepy during the day. A typical person with this condition is overweight, male, and middle-aged, and snores loudly. However, it can affect anyone. Treatment usually works well.

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a condition where your breathing stops for short spells when you are asleep. The word apnoea means without breath - that is, the breathing stops. In the case of OSA, the breathing stops because of an obstruction to the flow of air down your airway. The obstruction to the airflow occurs in the throat at the top of the airway.

You may also have episodes where your breathing becomes abnormally slow and shallow. This is called hypopnoea. Because there can also be these episodes of hypopnoea, doctors sometimes use the term obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome.

There is a lot more on this subject so please look it up.

My hubby Pete has sarcoidosis and was tested for sleep apnoea but does not have it. He is male (obviously), overweight, collar size 20 and snores loudly! (I wear ear plugs) but does not have sleep apnoea. I hope that things work out well for you and you get the right treatment. Glad the sarc has improved though. Pete has had his for over 21 years. Take care. xxx

Hi, I've been visiting this site for a few months but this is the first time for me to write on here. I have Sleep Apnoea and was diagnosed about 2 years ago. I have a CPAP machine which you use with a mask at night and it blows air into your lungs so you don't stop breathing whilst asleep. Its wonderful as I no longer fall asleep all over the place and feel rested in the mornings as my sleep is not so disturbed. Also you have to notify DVLA if you drive but its ok provided you use the CPAP for the prescibed hours per night, mines 4 hrs, then you are allowed to drive. Once you have your CPAP machine you'll be a lot healthier. Good Luck
