Well, I tried. My supplier is npower but I am told they can only help if it is the person whose name is on the bill that has the disability and is claiming benefits. As my bill is in my husband's name they will not even discuss it with me. Perhaps the answer is to transfer the account into my name? Anyone else faced this problem?

HI auntmary.
I am with npower too & my name is on the bill.I informed them of my C.O.P.D. & the fact i was off work ( 3 month sicknote ) so claiming sickness benefit, housing benefit, council tax benefit. Was informed that because i was not claiming D.L.A. i could not get warm home discount.x
I am with Npower have DLA but assumed because my partner is working and we have a joint income of just below £20,000. Which includes the DLA I am not eligible.

No, that is what I used Ray. It states that you can claim if you have someone in the household claiming DLA but that the bill payer must be the one collecting benefits and that is what they confirmed when I rang.
Auntymary xx
I'm with npower as well and also had issues getting them to talk to me about this because my wife's name is on the bill. I was told that they could add another name to the account so you could call and discuss matters with them, but you have to write to them. They had to speak to my wife to confirm her data or birth and our address before he would speak with me.
It's a bit crazy as I corresponded with them for many months following a dispute about a faulty meter that eventually went to the energy ombudsman's office to be resolved. I won my case but was very disappointed with the 'compensation', but that's another matter.
The chap I spoke to this time said it was because they've changed their billing system, everyone is getting new account numbers and any previous association of partners will have to be done again - in other words, a backwards step!
As I've noted elsewhere, I've written to them about the Warm Home scheme to ask them to consider my case under their wider options, and also asked that my name be re-associated with the bills. The letter came back unopened as 'gone away' once, so I've sent it again to a different address.
filled in the website form,(my name is on bill) given a reference number, and told to wait for their reply,so fingers crossed
I'm with British Gas, I don't get DLA but I need a CPAP ( breathing) machine through the night. I got the warm front discount last year, paid on to my bill in February this year. I've just had to apply again, but not guaranteed to get it.
