My doc said before that as you get older you lose about 30% lung capacity, if I'm 43 and have
79% what will it be in say 30yrs. Does it work they way i'm thinking? ie 79%-30%

What Is COPD? nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health...
It does not quite work out like that David. You would still have good blood saturation levels for instance. Something like 98%. I know my father in law does, and he is 80. Our lung capacity does get worse with age, not the same as having copd though. I for instance have 25% of expected FEV1. That means I have a quarter of the lung capacity that would be expected of someone my age. As I get older, my lung capacity will just by age get less. But it is possible in a few years time I will have something like 20% of someone that my age at that time would be expected to have. Hope this makes sense to you:-\)
Thanks
Been to doctors today so he could explain the complicated Spirmetry RESULTS.
My FEV 1 (L) is 79% predicted against 86% post (8%) change.
My FVC (L) is 114% predicted against 119% post (5%) change.
Still looks and sounds a bit confused.com
He stated it's very mild COPD, as I only have a wheezzee when I over do things and don't show and other sign we agree no meds just now, however i've been warned never ever never ever to go back to the cigs.
Fue jab next month and see him every year.
Take care and please keep extra well.

how age changes the lungs umm.edu/ency/article/004011...
Healthy lungs decline by 30ml per yr.
Smoking whilst diagnosed with copd decline can vary upto 200ml.
Its a no brainer stop smoking ang decline may level to normal decline levels with medication and healthy living. Dont look back and say what you should have done.
