Have you any ideas for why the cough is happening any changes in medication or environment recently that could be linked with your change. Getting a doctors diagnosis of this will be the best answer.

Hello,

I agree with Relic.

You did not say which lung condition you have, I have bronchiectasis and can reduce my "productive " cough almost completely for a few hours by using a pep device and salt nebuliser. I am not sure if this treatment helps copd.

Being on nebulisers every 4 hours I find myself with a dry, tickly cough right at the back of my throat, when my next nebuliser is due. This is alleviated somewhat by gently sipping tepid water (not cold) for a couple of minutes. Another tip I picked up in hospital (from a consultant) was, when I feel I'm going to cough, place a forefinger on the hard part just under the nose and press for a moment or two. This has a hit-and-miss success rate :)

I hope you manage to find a solution the suits you.

My dad finds drinking cool boiled water helps, like elian said. Some say a bit of lemon juice in it helps, not sure though dad didn't say.

I have bad cough. I had, when I was working, a glass of tepid - not cold - water always on my desk. Also I use my ventolin inhaler even its Im not due for another dose. Along with usual blowing nose etc that normally works for me. I like Jakemans cough sweets (get them from any chemists, or boots superdrug etc - Superdrug cheapest, 59p). They help my cough.

Hope you find something that works for you. x

Hi Andyuson

You really need to know why you are coughing and if it is very different from your norm you might want to see your GP.

Personally I have bronchiectasis and as my coughs are productive I would never suppress a cough, but that is my norm.

Hope you find a solution soon.

if it's a cough that produces mucus, it's good to get it out. or that's how I feel about mine, so use things that help this - like potters chest mixture, mucus med, water (dilutes it) .
