Hi, the one problem I have with it, it doesn't do anything for me whatsoever. You may aswell give me a placibo. 😉

If yr taking it for a flare up,it may be the exacerbation causing it

Yes they give me a fast heart rate too. As soon as I move around it sets off. It’s very unpleasant and frightening. This happened last September. I saw my doctor yesterday because I have an exacerbation and he said I must start my rescue pack. I said I can’t tolerate the steroids they make my heart go too fast. All he could do was shrug his shoulders! Then I said could I take a lower dose, I only weigh 6 stone and six tablets is too many for me. He said he would let me take 5 a day. I still haven’t started them. I will wait and see if I feel better by tomorrow and then I’ll have to take them if not.

Thanks Fircone - I think that's wise, I have a flare up at the mo and reluctant to start. I'm sure my doc will say start your rescue pack but 6 a day def too many. I'm not as light as you but suffer terribly, as you say it's frightening. Thank you for replying.

Maybe you can speak with your doctor and see if you could take 5 instead of the standard 6? I’m speaking with my doctor this afternoon because I’ve started feeling better but I’ve still got some clear sputum so I just don’t know if that means I need the steroids or not. I do hope not, I hate the blinking things! Good luck with talking to your doctor😊

Hi, I haven't had to take pred yet, so I can't help personally. I know it made my late husband feel fit and energetic when he took it. He called them magic bullets and was disappointed when our GP wouldn't let him take them all the time.

While you're waiting for other people to reply, check out the related posts about pred. You can use the search box to find them, or click on the list of related posts (to the right if you're on a laptop or computer screen.

All the best x

I've never noticed this, but I'm pretty grotty when I'm on pred.

Morning! Yep, as above they are my magic bullet, I feel completely 'normal' and fit and healthy on pred, annoyingly! I do find my heart skips, and multi beats on the occasions when I up my fostair 100 to the maximum dose, 8/10 a day 🤷‍♀️

I do wonder if the doses of pred are too set by gp's, we can't all need the same dose!? I have rescue packs, consultant 'prescribes' 6 a day for 7 days, but this would send me totally manic, so as advised verbally by him I do a couple of days of 6, then a descending dose, down by 1 tablet every couple of days, until I do alternate days and stop. I do have eosinophilic so may be I'm an oddity in the way it works for me, I'll add I'm not suggesting you do what I do, just giving my experience of pred x N

Hi Nicola, yes I think dose is too high, I do tend to take less as heart rate of 150 is very uncomfortable. Last time I had to go straight to gp for an ecg cause they were worried. I do descend because I can't do 6 every day. What you do sounds sensible thank you - I will speak to doc. X

Hi Maximonkey, when I take it with breakfast as instructed I find by the afternoon my heart rate rises to 150 with my heart almost jumping out of my chest. That was on 8 tablets of 5mg.

Yes definitely, luckily I rarely have to take it but if I do I'll take it af 5am with an oatcake or two, this prevents the racing heart/palpitations at night enabling me a bit of sleep.

Thank you Peege - will try that.

Thank you for your reply. I must admit I'm reluctant to start them for my current flare up.
