I had a comprehensive blood test before I was diagnosed, which didn’t show anything out of the normal ranges. But recent blood test results appear to be all over the place. Basically, my red blood cell count is abnormally high and my white blood cell count is low, especially for oesinophils, which are in the abnormal range. Although I was sent the test results, I haven’t received any professional interpretation of them. I was wondering if these readings are usual for people with bronchiectasis, and should I expect the consultant to send some explanation of them in due course?

I should make an appointment with your doctor if I were you and ask him to explain. There may even be somebody on this site who could help, or you could see if the NHS web site has any information. It's not nice to be left without something like this being put into plain English. Nobody's ever told me about this aspect of blood test results.
This happens with me if I am taking antibiotics or having IV. To put your mind at rest ask your doc.
Make appointment with yr Dr to discuss results
Thanks for your replies above. I’ll try and get my gp to discuss it but the test was done at Royal Brompton. I was a bit concerned as I found a recent paper describing Eosinopenia in bronchiectasis as a bio marker for morbidity and mortality.
Best not to read up+ worry yrself probably needlessly.the drs look at the results as a whole, they're the experts, chase up an appointment to put mind at rest x
Really good website that explains blood tests and what the outcome of those tests could indicate.
Jello,
Best not to try to second guess blood test results.
They have to be read and understood in the context of condition, the person and the symptoms.
As others have said make an appointment with a doctor to interpret them.
Go well

I've got chronic asthma and was diagnosed with eocinaphilic asthma prior to my bronchiectasis diagnosis. I'm currently reading a book by Daniel Picaut "Beating Bronchiectasis: How I went from diagnosis to full recovery in just one year.
Obviously I'm reading it with caution; essentially it refers to healthy diet veg and protein, no sugar or alcohol. 30 mins cardio exercise, supplements, daily nasal lavage and nebuliser 2x day.
I personally wouldn't do a nasal wash daily, I do it monthly.
Hi, have to agree aiwth Patk1, don`t look at individual figures. I used to scare myself when my GGT was way out of range, but Dr`s comment was, try to reduce alcohol intake but don`t get too excited. From memory my last blood test had 180 for a normal figure of less than 70. FWIW Eosinopenia is usually associated with pneumonia and Covid and is a marker showing infection. Take care, put the results away and enjoy the day, Chris.
I had blood results last year that worried me, so I made an appointment with my GP to have everything explained. You have a right to know. x
I had high ensophil levels and was diagnosed with ensophillic asthma. I have bilogic injection every 8 weeks and this has helped loads. Hope you get answers.x
