Hi, I've had a build up of wax which I've been told to use drops four times a day.One gp I saw last year said he thinks it's allergy related and the most recent gp said he's never heard that before.
My hearing is in and out (left ear).
I'm taking carbocisteine for bronchiectasis but don't think that's the cause.
Anyone with similar problems? I've heard gp won't syringe ears.
Thanks for reading....

My ears need cleaning out regularly. I've never heard it could be allergy related. Unfortunately the NHS hardly ever do it, so you have to go to a private company. I've found Specsavers the cheapest; their practitioners are pleasant and competent.
Speak to your GP Heaven20, & ask if he/she could refer you to the surgery treatment room for your ears tobe examined, once you get the referral & your ears are examined, if you require syringing the nurse will advise you to to apply 4/5 Olive Oil drops am & pm for 10 days to loosen the wax, then when you return the nurse will syringe your ears ,( you can get Olive Oil ear drops with a dipper from any pharmacy, ask for the one with the dipper which enables you to put the correct amount of drops in) I had the same problem as you have a few weeks ago Heaven 20, & I also have Bronchiectasis,it was my GP who referred me to the treatment room & the nurse examined my ears & told me it was a build up of wax & to apply the drops for 10 days,on my return I had my ears syringed,& I have to say it has certainly made a remarkable difference to my hearing..In general I do not think some surgeries remove wax, but I personally found that by having severe asthma & bronchiectasis which causes constant coughing, the cough I felt had a real bad effect on my hearing,so much so that I thought that perhaps I would need a hearing aid, but no it was a real build up of wax.. I hope all goes well for you Heaven 20 & like myself the GP will refer you to the surgery treatment room...Kind regards,💕 Primrose 123...xx ( Maria)
hi, try the high street for wax removal and hearing test. I had ENT and ears had to be clear for tests saw gp who said they were clear , they were not . Good luck.Kevin
I had my ears sorted by a local high street company. One was really blocked so I had to go back again. It’s wonderful being able to hear perfectly now. The doctors surgery does not do this any more. As soon as I have trouble with my ears again I will go straight back as the difference is amazing.
Yes Mons, some doctors surgeries Still Do ear syringing,I totally agree that Not all surgeries do,pending on what is causing the ear problem after thorough examination, I was referred to the treatment room by my GP & I was diagnosed with a large build up of wax in my ears, I was advised by the nurse to apply ear drops for 10 days, then on my return I had my ears syringed by the nurse at my surgery treatment room, that was a few weeks ago, so,Yes, Mons, ear syringing Can still be done at some surgeries, pending on result of examination.. Hi Heaven20, I have a problem ongoing with waxy ears. I also suffer with tinnitus which the wax makes worse. I have always hated using oil in my ears and my husband has always needed to insert it for me. Three months ago I mentioned this problem to my asthma nurse and she said to try Earol every night for a month and if I still had the problem I was to go back to my hearing aid provider. It worked a treat and now I use it every other night and it keeps my ears wax free. I strongly recommend this product as it is easy to use by yourself. Take care, Maximonkey
Yes, the nozzle is the right shape for placing in the ear without any problems, then you press and it sprays into the ear without any drips etc. Take care, Maximonkey
yes Heaven20. I have numerous conditions including COPD and Athsma. I’m having problems just now with my hearing aids, especially in my right ear. I paid a lot of money for them and already they have been sent away. I’ve had them almost a year. I also take carbocistein and also tried several times putting in olive oil overnight . I have an appointment with my nurse next week and will tell her and ask her could it be any of my medication.
I have also made an appointment to get my aids (and ears) checked
I’ve just noticed Maximonkeys reply to you and that has helped me. I have used Earol before, in fact it was my husband who had lots of problems with his ears. Unfortunately I now struggle alone with ear drops.
Get some Earole ear spray from your chemist, use that for a week, and then you will need to find a private place who vacuum the wax out. Some spectacle shops do it, Superdrug and some that just specialize in it. You'll have to pay. Another service the NHS has shifted.
It's hard for people who have buld up of earwax on a regular basis isn't it? I will get some earol to try and keep it under control.I had mine syringed last year and now they're blocked again. Never had this problem until I reached a certain age 🤔
