My advice would be buy a specimen bottle from your nearest pharmacy and ring your doctors for an emergency appointment. They can look at it and send it off for you. Nine times out of ten they will tell from listening to you and your chest and might put you on something straight away while waiting for your results. Good luck chook, try not to worry 😉
100% you need to see a doctor but it looks like you are either starting a chest infection or you may well have broken some minor blood vessels when coughing. Both of these are extremely common but you need to get a doctors opinion. We simply can’t do that for you.
Finally I would say that at your age it is highly unlikely to be anything serious but maybe this is a “wake up” call to consider the discontinuation of smoking!!
Yes I'd definitely get a sputum test done and ask for appointment with doc. Please do try to give up smoking ....if I was able to do it anyone can .... you're young kick the habit now ...you don't want to end up like me !!!!!!
Pop yourself to the surgery and get a sputum specimen pot for testing ... See your GP you will need antibiotics I'm guessing..More importantly choose not to smoke now as your ruining your health...
Hope you feel better soon rest and take it easy ...
Such a wonderfull site this for positive & helpful replies. Ticked ey one no need to add my 10 pence worth, all sound advice. Except....They won't be 'HealingLungs' if u continue to smoke. 🤞
yes get along to see a GP. Also ask about groups/classes run locally to you to give up smoking. A little health scare always helps the motivation to take action. Stay fit and well.
As it's often difficult to get a same day appointment in some areas you do need to try, ring at 8am (that's usually the time they use for making same day appointments), hang on until you get a reply when you do lay it on thick saying you think you've got a chest infection and you just need a quick listening to your chest to confirm or not that it is . A doctor should call back to discuss. For self help you could discontinue smoking asap to prevent COPD (emphysema or chronic bronchitis) taking over your lungs but in the meantime drink plenty of fluids to help liquefy the mucus to get it up and out of your lungs. Were all patients with different lung diseases at different levels here. Some are now unable to walk very far because their lungs are in such poor condition & relying on others to help them. Not much fun at all so do please make the call
After 25 years, I stopped smoking at the age of 45. This was after at least 10 years of trying to quit, with Nicotine, hypnosis and will power. What finally did it was a terrible infection with which, if I tried smoking my pipe, I could hardly breath. So, it was either nicotine or oxygen; no contest. However, it was too late, and from my early 60's it started to show with constant chest infections, then COPD, a little bit of emphysema and later bronchiectasis. Multiple chest infections, couple of pneumonia stints. So, PACK UP.
As with most things, health problems is genetic. So, if your family has no history with lung problems, you might get away with it. I wouldn't chance it.
I live through the era when in my early years the atmosphere was clogged with smog. Everybody had coal fires, factories has chimneys, electricity was generated by coal fired boilers. Vehicles were emitting all sorts of rubbish, all of which we were breathing. I am sure it's no where near as bad as that these days, except there is a lot more traffic than the 1950's and until electric powered vehicles finally arrive, if you live near a main road, I am sure can cause respiratory problems.
Sorry to hear your concerns, it's worrying when this happens. I smoked for many years before my diagnosis and when I started to get ill the cigs were the first thing to go. I'd tried many times before but it was time to stop and I hope you can. I have bronchiectasis now and people with it know how difficult it can be, but would be a lot worse if I still smoked. This is not me preaching because I appreciate how difficult it is. I hope you get seen and given the treatment you need.
1. Knock the fags on the head today and put what you would normally spend in an ISA or similar, you’ll be amazed how this will build but you need the discipline of a priest in Stringfellows.
2.As our learnered fellows have already advised sputum jar to doctors tomorrow and ask they send it off for lab comments.
