It’s good you have an urgent referral just to check the lump. It’s right to be seen quickly and try not to worry, easier said than done l know.

We’re having Covid and flu jabs tomorrow afternoon. I’m having both and Pete is having just covid. I’ve booked his flu jab for the 18th. It’s better for him to have the jabs separately. Xxx

sassy59 Thankyou for your reply I don’t think it helps that I looked on google and it says the worst I’m not the best person with medical matters as I get very anxious . . I’m glad your both getting your jabs early before the colder months starts and there’s even more viruses about take care xx

If you know you’re an anxious person, avoid Dr Google like the plague! Stick to reputable websites. I’ve been referred on that two week pathway several times. I just look on it as a quick way of confirming a lump or whatever isn’t anything serious. I’ve been right so far. I don’t know why so many people always assume the worst, but that’s anxiety for you. Thank goodness I’m generally a calm person 😊 but you have my sympathy - illness is bad enough without the worry which often comes with it x

hi janedivney I’ve suffered with anxiety since the age of 16 Due to mental health problems especially medical experiences of family members which I will not discuss on this forum which is why it makes me how I am . . .im glad your such a calm person and you can cope with most things in a calm manner 😊 I was told to look at the ultrasound an what they do on the internet that’s when other things came up. . . .i suppose curiosity gets the better of a person at times especially regarding health matters ,I was asking for advice on this site as gp said they might do a biopsy at the same if so I wanted to make sure steps were in place for my disabled son and I’ve seen on this site that many people have had them for different things

Thanks for the replyx

They may well do a biopsy, but the result takes a while. I had a 2wk referral for suspected endometrial cancer (it wasn’t) and getting the biopsy result took several weeks. If you’re very anxious, that’ll seem a dreadfully long time. I have a friend who’s having a bad time atm with her health anxiety, waiting on results from a scan, so her gp has given her a short course of benzodiazepines to help her through this worrying period - hopefully you’ve a similarly supportive gp x

Yes, had similar experience to others here and you. It means you have a conscientious GP who's getting you fast-tracked. The scan is probably just 'belt and braces' to be thorough, and quite rightly! All best. xx 🌺🌺

I used to get lumps on my neck quite often in my youth, and small ones in my armpits. I was assured they were simply my lymph glands playing up so they did not worry me. I hope your lump is that too. The family home was cold and damp, except around the coal fire in the living room, so I was very prone to ear, nose and throat sort of snuffles. Try not to worry. Very best wishes. xxx

It must be a worry but you are being seen really quickly, which is great. It's probably nothing serious so do try not to overthink it, not easy I know. Reading other peoples replies, these lumps seem to turn out to be nothing serious more often than not. Good luck! xx

Not all swollen lymph nodes are disasterous. People with a condition called Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia get this. Chronic means it is a slow developer. It is one of those things that you can live with for years, a die with rather than from. Treatment from Watch and Wait, for it to develope over many years, or tablets daily, and other options. Many living a full life style with this also have multiple other conditions. It may also be just an infection.

Hi Yvonneh, As others have said, it is precautionary and more than likely will turnout to be nothing. Good though that your GP is referring you so quickly 😊

Take care and try not to worry (easily said I know) xx

I don't want to alarm you but I highly recommend that you do get it checked out. My husband had a small lump in his neck for months but he just dismissed it as a cyst because he didn't have any other symptoms. It turned out to be thyroid cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes so please do have the scan. They've put you on a 2 week pathway for a reason.

Take care and let us know the results? xx

I go Monday so hopefully will get some answers Thankyou xx

Hello,

I am fairly new to this forum.

I had an urgent 2 week referral a few years ago for different symptoms. It is very scary at the time. After it all, I found it to actually be really reassuring to be checked out so quickly. and to be given a reason for my symptoms which was not concerning. I hope this happens for you.

I think it is normal to feel scared and to think the worst. I believe it is our way to prepare our brain for the worst news. It is managing those emotions in those 2 weeks and distracting yourself as much as possible. (Easier said than done, I know!) I know I will be more prepared for that 2 week period, if it was to happen again for any symptoms.

I agree with avoiding Dr Google! Next time I will just check out NHS site and no others.

Twenty odd years ago I found a lump in my breast and was in the exact same position you are now . I will say try not to worry but I know how hard that is but please , please don’t Google ! I had a mammogram, an ultra sound and two biopsies and a week later I was given the all clear , it was a fatty lump ( the medical name of which I couldn’t pronounce then and can’t remember now ) I still have it and it has even grown slightly but apparently that is quite common and nothing to worry about Not all lumps are cancer and there are many reasons why a lymph note will enlarge You have taken action quickly so try to stay positive x

Thepainterswife Thankyou for your reply I think it’s the initial shock at first to be honest I expected gp to just say it’s nothing an to be honest once he said I need emergency ultrasound an it was lymph node I don’t think I listened to the rest properly your response was reassuring Thankyou for that 😊 I haven’t heard anything yet so just waiting for an appointment atm .i will put an update on as and when I no more Thankyou xx
