Edit: I’m not able to continue lung clearance for a few days as it’s making it intolerable. Can I ask if you had a period of restarting this! Thanks
Hello everyone, apologies for long post, I need to vent, I’m now on a third week of IV’s with a staph infection that is refusing to part company. It’s playing havoc in my lungs and my nose bleeds, I’ve managed to produce plugs and sputum but it’s painful on lung clearance still plus they bleed as well.
I’ve been placed onto predisilone at 30mg for second week and tapering after 7 days etc
Pipercillin has not worked (week 1) and now I’m on a third week (2 and 3)of meropenam three x a day. Feeling dreadful, my question is I’ve now been told I have pleurisy as well. Any advice on pain relief please?
Thank you for your thoughts.

Try taking some anti-inflammatory over the counter medications however I have found after several bouts of pleurisy that rest is perhaps the only thing that helps. Normally I find a gentle heat over the affected area helps but in this hot weather I would not recommend it.
The 'Pred's should help with pain relief. Otherwise like Bessie said, just over the Counter stuff, rest n sleep. As we know these things take ages to shift. After recent bout of Pneumonia, I was Sleeping 17 hrs of the day! Best wishes Annie. 🛌😴
Is the pleurisy pain worse on one side? I was advised to lie on that side (with a pillow underneath) and it actually does help!Alternatively, anti inflammatory meds (if you can take them) and lots of rest 💐
ooh yes, if you have asthma, anti inflammatory meds might not be safe so don’t take anything without checking with a doctor.
Try to put a pillow under your right side and lie directly on your right side. At first, I thought it was a terrible idea to put pressure on the place I had so much pain but it was much more comfortable. Take care.
For moving about and breathing it maybe helpful to place a rolled up towel on the affected side, between your ribs and arm. I found it very useful, it keeps the ribs still so you can get a breath in without agony. (I do take ibuprofen for back pain regularly even though I've got moderate asthma- I'm not recommending it by any means but it seems ok & its the only thing that helps). P
