Our flu jabs are booked but not had notification of anything else yet. We won’t have flu and covid jabs together as Pete had a bad reaction last year. Thanks for posting Jane. Xxxx❤️
Thanks for the article Jane. Do you have any idea - or has anyone reading this - why the RSV jab for older people is only offered to folks who are between 75-79?
From the article: "The [RSV] jab will be available to those aged 75 to 79" but they don't explain why. Puzzling.
I agree , I'm wishing they'd add lung compromised people below 75 and over 79 too. Thanks for the link dear janedivney, very useful 🤗
This was my first thought too. I looked at the JCVI website and it clearly states “RSV can be more severe in people with medical conditions such as heart or lung disease or a weakened immune system”. gov.uk/government/publicati... This begs the question, why isn’t it offered to those vulnerable groups? I haven’t found a definite answer but one possibility is there’s a teensy increased risk (5 cases per million vaccines) of developing the serious neurological condition Guillain-Barre Syndrome after the vaccine. This has led the US Center for Disease Control to decide “the benefits of RSV vaccination do not clearly outweigh the potential harms in adults aged 60-74 years without risk factors for severe RSV disease.” But… lung and heart disease ARE risk factors! Hmm.
I already have a neurological condition so this might’ve been a consideration, but as I’m under 75 I’m not eligible anyway!
I don’t know why the JCVI can’t make our lives easier & explain why it’s not being offered to vulnerable younger adults, because so many of us must be asking that question
