I'm also on trimbow I suffer alot with cramps in my hands never thought of it might being related to the Inhaler I'm also on Fostair i can be doing something easy like filling the kettle the next minute my hand just cramps up and I ended up dropping the kettle and breaking it luckily it wasn't boiling water it's also happened when I try picking a saucepan up with like beans or soup in it the pain is horrible and there's no way I can keep a grip on what ever I am holding in my hand

My friend had carpal tunnel syndrome and the test is relatively straightforward but you would go onto a hospital waiting list. Speak to your gp about the situation. Obviously if you are likely to drop things this is quite serious and should be investigated. Be it caused by carpal tunnel syndrome or the inhaler you need to know where the problem is. In the meantime I suggest you carry things in two hands and don’t carry anything a distance.

I get much the same on Trelegy. I think that I read somewhere that it can be a side effect.

Try tonic water to help alleviate cramp leo. I used to take a mini can or a bottle of FeverTree tonic water (contains natural quinine rather than synthetic) to Pilates class. It really worked. Nowadays I take a magnesium supplement every evening and the cramps are rare now. (Unless it's the small banana I have most days🤔)

Hi peege, how sweet of you to reply 😊

My cramps are only when I'm in bed! Is this my body telling me that I don't deserve a lie in?😂 My daughter is the manager of an electrolyte company (elete for a quick plug 😉) so I do take that. Pointless drinking all the liquid we are told to if your body can't absorb it! I thought that and my daily multivitamin + mineral supplement that I take would be enough, but maybe not? I really don't like tonic water, but I will give it a good go (anything for being comfy in bed!).

Late I know, but just had a quick read up and Trimbow side effects lists cramps as rare ie: 1 in 1,000 , but listed as a common with salbutamol !!! I haven't noticed a correlation, but will pay more attention and come back to you all 😊

Thanks again for your help peege xx

Magnesium deficiency can exacerbate/cause cramp - and of course some people find their steroid inhaler causes cramps. I use the Better You magnesium spray oil and magnesium lotion, plus magnesium bath salts in any combination or singly that I have time for to tackle them. I haven’t completely sorted it, but maybe I’ve helped. I don’t get on well with magnesium tablets (or capsules) as I find they upset my stomach 🤷‍♀️

Just an idea as a simple remedy…

I'm on trimbow have been since 2018 I get a lot of cramps in my toes and feet the worse is my feet as they turn in an awkward position my wrist and thumbs get bad but I get injections in my thumbs every few months which helps but it's arthritis and that tunnel thing it's not side affects from trimbow for me

I have recently been diagnosed with overlap asthma and was given Fostair Nexthaler and really didn't connect the hand cramps that started. My consultant changed my inhaler due to the cough it gave me and now on Revlar and the hand cramps are gone. At least I know now what caused it. Sorry you are going through this perhaps have a word about changing your inhaler x

Hi I have been on trimbow for a few months and had trouble firstly with sore mouth and throat.Told to use a spacer and continue to rinse mouth out.Seems to have helped but I have started to get cramps in my fingers quite bad .When I am unwell with my asthma during the high grass pollen season i use my ventolin quite alot and get very bad leg cramps. so I think some inhalers def cause cramps of some sort .I'm using trimbow 2 puffs morn and night. Be extra careful when lifting or carrying hot items

Hi Russ,

I have the same problem. I have carpel tunnel in my wrists, osteoarthritis in hands, and cubital tunnel in elbows. Cramps can also be MS, rheumatoid arthritis, tendonitis, etc. For cramps, I find drinking electrolyte water very helpful with minimizing the cramps. Also, avocado, coconut water and watermelon may help. My doctor said we lose electrolytes as we age, and this can cause cramps. I'm sure, my medications play a role as well. I would suggest seeing a physical therapist or a hand surgeon who specialize in hand problems. Best wishes.

I am also on Trimbow, which replaced Fostair, don't think you should be taking both, best check with your gp, or pharmacy. I get gout quite a bit, but the last time when it went it left me with my. Right foot being extremely painful still is too, back to doctor to get it sorted think it might be arthritis.

Wishing you well and hope you get your inhalers sorted.

I have been told that all inhalers can cause cramp but I suspect the Formoterol Fumarate. I had cramp quite badly when I was on DuoResp Spriromax which contains 12 mcg but now only occasionally on Trimbow which only contains 6 mcg. I see that Fostair also contains 6 mcg so, by using both inhalers, you are on a 'double' dose. As has been suggested, you may want to double check this is a correct prescription for you. When I get an occasional night cramp in my legs, I use my blue DeepFreeze cooling spray plus, if necessary, a bit of walking about. I already have this spray for my OA backache.
