Cough and weather change

Hello everyone I hope you are all doing okay 😊

I recently posted a question regarding the warmer weather and the effect it has on your various lung conditions and was really grateful for all the responses.

Just to confirm I have CPFE.

Following on from that question, I have another;

As I said previously I noticed my breathing is better with the warmer weather, unfortunately my cough has become a lot worse, at one point I was gaging and couldn't breathe properly due to the force of the cough.

Does anyone else have problems with coughing during the warmer weather and do you know why?

Many thanks

Hi WibbleIt could be allergies, pollen, pollutants I have COPD and can have different levels of breathlessness all caused by the weather. Also not long ago had a irritating cough went to see the GP and was diagnosed with post nasal drip. So please see your doctor. Hope this is some help.

Thanks for the information, what is post nasal drip?

If you are producing mucus and it drips down the back of your throat at night, this can cause coughing sometimes you don't even realise it.

I have been particularly bad this year. I have been going into panics when struggling to cough up phlegm which unusually has been more in my throat. I have also had bad congestion in my nasal passages. I am on a nebuliser with Ipratropium twice a day; Salmeterol and Pulmicort turbohaler. Also Salbutomol when needed. I was prescribed Dymista nasal spray which I found great for loosening up mucus. Also the last 2 years I have been using a Chinese nasal spray which has felt like a life saver when so bunged up.

Recently my symptoms got worse so as well as upping the Pulmicort, I started using my Salbutamol inhaler through the day, rather than just relying on the timed nebuliser. This has made a definite difference. Finally, I have started gargling with salt water and doing a very gentle ‘self’ administration of the Heimlich manoeuvre which seems to help shift and bring up the phlegm. When feeling it is stuck. I’m not saying it will work for others, and it may not be suitable at all for others, but this is what has worked for me and helped shift and bring up the phlegm.
