Sorry, it's a damselfly, official name the Beautiful Damselfly or Calopteryx Virgo to its friends. It only lives in very clean water so we don't get them in many places in East Anglia. Luckily its mate the Banded Damselfly (Calopteryx Splendens) isn't quite so fussy. They're both absolutely beautiful. I've never seen a better photo of one, even in my dragonfly books- you really are an ace photographer. Sorry to be pedantic but I went on a course about dragonflies once. xxxx

Damselflies are really small dragonflies. The calopteryxes are the biggest most robust damsels- like the dragons they are fierce hunters of smaller insects.
