one of my brothers red canaries..
What a beautiful bird jimmy. Your brother must be really proud of his canaries and it is good that they do well. You take care. xxxx
yes sassy, hes mad about them, he must have about 60-100 of them, hes the president of their club or society and bred them for many years now, their his pride and joy thanks sassy, take care,,
remember the clocks ,,jimmy xxxx
hi love your bird . I now wish to warn you of dangers of the dust from birds . witch can get in your lungs causing pulmonary fibrosis .
Lovely, didn't know u could get red canaries, ur brother must be very proud as u are of him. X Sonia x
yes sonia, most folk think their dyed, but that is their real colour, although there are "intensive reds" "recessive reds"..he knows all the colours etc, but yes you can get red canaries take care now sonia,, [sleeping on my feet here :D],, jimmy xxxxx
beautiful bird
yes eyes their lovely birds,, thats the ones i was on about on the other post jimmy
What is his birdsong like? Good looking bird SMILEY
Jimmy, I'm colour blind but even I can see that,s a very red bird. Lovely pic, shame we can't here it sing, I'm sure its better at it than me.
I loved your tame wood pigeon from the other day also, its very rare to see a wild one that tame.
strangely enough my brother is colour blind, yet he breeds these canaries,,, but he can see reds and other certain colours,,
your obviously about the same as me at singing i.e, rubbish ha ha , but those birds can fairly sing.
yes my tame woody, off for the winter, wonder if ill see him next year, if so it'll be his 4th year
good to hear from you dall, when do we start this blf choir we would be singing alto - alto-gether out the door all the very best dall,,,jimmy
Lovely looking canary.
I used to breed show budgies when I was young. But I have been banned from keeping birds now
morning offcut, i used to breed budgies too, not for exhibition, just for colour, i have bred all sorts of birds, i was very keen on racing pigeons [but i never beat them ] but have someone keeping them here, but no way can i enter the loft, i even wear a mask outside the loft,, but do miss them, like yourself,,,,,all the best off cut, away to get my porridge now,,, i slept in, carer slept in ,, forgot the clocks lol ,,jimmy
Great bird pic Jimmy - must admit I didn't know there were red canaries. Where does your wood-pigeon go every winter? Mine stay here through thick and thin - do some of them migrate? If you're "Oop North" maybe they just come further south? If so I'll look out for him!
aye, d, mum, lots of people think their dyed, but that is there colour, but i know my brother "colour feeds" them, this seems to make the colour more intense, but this one in the pic was not colour fed.
as far as "woody" goes, i really don't know!!, this place where i stay has a lot of fir trees, in the summer there are loads of nesting wood pigeons, but they have all disappeared now, yet i see loads in the fields etc.
you could well be right, some of them might have a little sense and move further "dan sath" or maybe even migrate, so if you see one with an orange plastic marker ring on,,, its woody give him a little feed and tell him i'm asking for him lol
i just keep wondering if ill get his company again in early march/april of next year [his 4th year] ,, i,ll just need to keep well, then wait and see ,, all the very best d, mum take care now,,,jimmy
How lovely.
Such wonderful condition. A true bird man.
yes budgiesmum, [i get a hint by your name lol ]
yes, i like my birds ,,the feathered ones nowadays, lol :D,,,but unfortunately cant keep them myself now due to these breathing probs. but do take a keen interest.
thanks budgiesmum,, jimmy xx
I had my 'big budgie '. as a chick at 6 months old.
That was almost 35 years ago.....
.There's no way I could part with him..,.......cheers
J.
was that a parrot budgiesmum,? i had an african grey parrot "mad max" for about 20 years, but he was reckoned to be about 60 when he passed away,, still miss him yet,,jimmy
Sam is a Blue. Fronted Amazon Parrot.........
We call him a budgie. Or. Big budgie as a rule when we are out.
Its a silly habit. But these birds are rather valuable these days.
I thought that .....budgiesmom was a good name for me !!!!
J.
brilliant budgiesmum, what a great story, the blue fronted amazon are beautiful, with their big long tails,,,and big beaks and like all the parrot family live quite old,, they are very intelligent too, , its amazing how attached you get to them,, ,,,,long live sam ,,, jimmy
What a beautiful colour my mom used to have a budgie it lived for years
their lovely wee birds, budgies, very able to talk and become very tame, and live fairly long
when i was a lad "onamission".., we had a budgie and a dog, in the winter the dog used to push the living room door open, causing a draft, i remember my mother training the dog to "shut the door" every time he pushed it open my mother would lift his paws up against the door, and repeat "shut the door" then give the dog a tit-bit, eventually the dog was able to jump up and "shut the door" to order,, but we had forgot about the budgie she had repeated "shut that door" to the dog, that many times,,,,,,,,the budgie used to say "shut the door" true ,,,take care onamission,, jimmy
My Mom would look after this parrot it belonged to the lady a few doors away at the time we had a red setter dog and this parrot would bark just like our dog and it would call the dog by its name and the dog would go up to the cage.
The parrot would also say a few more words I can't repeat on this site it was so funny to hear this parrot swear.
Hi .. Sam is rather lovely and ha knows it. Although we often refer to him as a budgie. He is a blue fronted amazon parrot.
He has just gone through a bad moult and there were times picking up his feathers I wished he was a budgie.
Will find a pic two & post for you to see.
J.
that was the same as "max" my african grey,, he used to greet me each morning, with a loud "good morning" i have a newspaper cutting of him ,where he chewed through my computer cables ,, and lived!! would love to see a pic. of sam,,,,
jimmy
Sam yells. Hello as soon as I enter the lounge in the morning.
He has never been that good at talking .....but he always lets us know what he wants.
Dare I admit that he is. House trained. The only things he leaves about
are feathers and seed husks near his cage.
He also has excellent table manners.
Better not say any more as you will all think I am barmy.
But I promise in a day or two a few photos.
