Hi, approx 18 months ago i had a bullectomy operation.
At my last chest xray some months ago, the report in to the result of that xray stated " deaeration at right hilum and right lung base". Also says there is a large right apical bulla.
I have tried to find out on google ect what this actually means, and i cannot come across anything that explains this.
Can someone please enlighten me as to what the phrase is actually spelling out, in plain english?
Your help/input would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

Hi, Pleased you have your results and from what you say the x Ray describes 2 areas of the lung, the hilium and the apical area. Dearated I assume means no air ? So perhaps not working so well ?
Apical area is the upper area of the lung as opposed to the base ( near the diaphragm)
Can I suggest you ask your GP or call you consultant’s secretary for a correct and detailed explanation of the results ?
Hi, I have emphysema and was told I had apical bullae when I asked what that was the nurse said “ holes in the top of my lungs , I had 3-4 holes at the start but new scans have shown new holes found in the bottom of my lungs and to the rear as well although my breathing is not too bad. As far as I can remember ( memory poor) Hilum is in the centre of each lung (I maybe wrong) . So it sounds like it’s all happening in your right lung. Hope this helps. Kevin
