Output as in FEV? Below 70 indicates airway obstruction, could be asthma or COPD or something else. Would need further tests to determine cause.

Thank you I have congenital heart disease the only things I remember is him saying I have lungs of a 50 year old (I’m 32) and the out put was 56%

Sorry to hear that you're going through this. If you get the NHS app, you can access your health record, so that you will be able to see what your GP wrote about your appointment. Should help you massively in being able to remember what doctors said and perhaps aid in taking it in.

Thank you but it was a cardiologist who told me and I live in Scotland and don’t think we are able to do that?

the heart and lungs do work very closely together both physiologically and anatomically. One can easier affect the other. It would be worth a follow up with your GP as mentioned in other replies to maybe investigate your lung function. To say 56% with no lung function tests is a bit random. If it is an FEV1% then an inhaler may help you. Take care 🦊x

Hi I had one of those tests where you blow into something I also had an MRI and exercise test that day, I really struggle taking in what they say and can only remember bits of it

It is hard to remember and understand everything usually they are so fast. Record your visits on your phone or a recorder. I have been doing that for years, has really helped me, go back and listen and make notes. I have also found the Dr will say one thing one visit and a contradiction during another visit and i can say, "well you said this on such and such date, what different now" They dont like that but too bad

Get an appointment with your dr for sure. You can be given that information with no explanation. 🦊x

It means based on an average person of your age that your lungs are only working at 56%, it is now your benchmark for further tests to see if the lungs have improved or got worse. As mentioned heart issues can also affect lung function so your cardiologist is probably correct that your heart issues are affecting your lung function. If you have symptoms of chest problems as well then a check up with a chest clinic may be needed.

Hello,

Hmmmmm, as you have ACHD as a long standing condition I would speak to your consultant’s secretary or the cardiac liaison nurses at your clinic asking them to explain exactly what they mean by ‘lung out’.

Or speak to the Somerville Foundation ?

Only a spirometry test will reveal an FEV1/FEV ratio result.

My son has ACHD and PH and has never had a spirometry test.

Go well.

Hi, Can you tell me what lung function test enabled your doctor to say "56% lung out put " if it is FEV1 at 56% - That would mean your lung output was just over 50% . Really I think you nee any teats explaining to you, and if you have not had a lung function test, the "56%" is pretty random and you need a lung function test.

Hi it was a Spirometry Test

OK - IF you doctor meant FEV1 then your lungd where working at 56% However I can't be 100% sure he mean that so have a look at the link I am giving you.
