Hi Yvonneh, Pete uses Laxido when necessary as it’s quite gentle. Make sure you stay hydrated too xxx

Thankyou the nurse at doctors recommended senekot but some of the reviews are horrendous so bit unsure tbh x

Senakot can be a bit harsh but Laxido or similar is more gentle. Xxx

I use stool softeners sometimes but mainly Senokot maximum strength if I’m bad otherwise the normal ones. No horrible side effects

Sorted out out my toilet problems and my copd in control x

Yes it is very hard. I'm adding more protein and veg and cutting size of portions, no cakes, biscuits sweets etc which I find really hard and losing a little every week.Bowel wise, mine is caused by the cocodamol I need to take and lack of activity.

If we keep it up we'll get there in the end 🤗

I have a heaped dessert spoonful of milled flaxseed every day since I heard Dr Michael Mosley recommend it on the the radio programme Just One Thing. It’s good for blood pressure and general health if taken regularly. Since starting it I have incredibly regular and easy bowel movements every morning.

where do you get it from please x

Health food shops, bigger supermarkets and you can probably get it on line. Ground or milled flaxseed it's a bit pricey (although not much more than a nice coffee out) hence me grinding my seeds in in a 45 year old coffee bean grinder. I'm on a budget too! PS Congratulations on your weight loss so far 👏 👍

Thankyou ☺️ I’ve still got away to go with the weight I’m going to try a few recommendations from here I’m always on a budget now things are so pricey even for everyday things doesn’t help my disabled son is lactose intolerant so I think they just make prices up on them kind of item 😂 xx

like Xzbv , I would recommend adding some flaxseed to your food. Sprinkle on yogurts or in salad for instance.

My other recommendation is to get Bran stick cereals from the Grape Tree stores. They are like All Bran cereals but with even higher fibre content and much less sugar. Also a lot cheaper!

Grape Tree also sell flaxseed in cheap packages.

A third option is to get chia seeds and use either as sprinkle on breakfast yogurt or mix with liquid, like milk for instance , to make chia puddings. You can have these puddings as breakfast or puddings or snacks.

Also from Grape Tree! (And no I don’t work at GrapeTree but find them very helpful and better priced than H&B and other stores for tthings like this)

Good luck!

All bran in morning with banana and almond milk keeps me regular, also plenty of fruit and veg.

My usual breakfast is Shredded wheat, prunes, raisins and Cranberries, and this time of year I add fresh fruit like strawberries, raspberries and/or blueberries. This usually does the trick, but if I have had to take some Co-codamol I have to take Laxido as well.

I have suffered with constipation all of my life, I now make sure I have olive oil every day.

Either generously on a salad or even a tea spoon full. It really does work for me.

Dried apricots work really well, only a few! Or laxido.

I thoroughly recommend ground flaxseed , it's a natural food, extremely good for us, laden with fibre once ground as well as being brilliant for the 'digestive' system . It contains Omega 3 too., vitamin B1, magnesium amongst other things. You can buy it ready ground for immediate use but I grind my own with the old coffee grinder because I use it every single day on my breakfast - usually on sugar free granola, porridge or the like. Sprinkle on any foods, soups, stir fries, spag bol, absolutely anything and everything It even (given time) can clear any compacted matter from the diverticuli in the colon.

Must be ground, the whole seeds just go straight through whole without releasing the wonderful benefits. (Sorry, I sound like an advert)! I use a heaped teaspoon daily but others I know use a heaped tablespoon . Check out any UK websites, bbcgoodfood has a good write up on it.

Hi, I find dried figs (I soak them overnight so they're softer to eat) porridge with ground flaxseed, as advised to me by peege, nut butters ( I buy Pip and Nut smooth Almond & Peanut butters because they only contain roasted nuts nothing else) and bananas all help and I sip liquids as much as I can xxxxx

I have Senna on prescription which does the business in a relatively controlled fashion.

2 doctors have recommended Sennacot to my husband and me. We've never had any problems with it.

All these replies should show you we're not sick of updates. And you've done me a favour. This ground flax seed sounds well worth trying. That's how this forum works.

Drink plenty of water. At least 1 5litres a day. Go for a walk everyday even a little 1. Its important to be mobile . And try a hot water bottle on your lower back when sitting or lying down every day until the constipation has shifted.

I add oat bran to my muesli, and have rhubarb, nuts and liquorice if the bran doesn't help; plus plenty of fluids - tea, water, soft drinks, etc.
