I have Aspergillosis and emphysema, the small print on most flutter devices says don’t use if you suffer from lung bleeds, my physio in hospital and on pulmonary rehab recommended them, (until we discussed the bleed issue)

Hi,

Yes I have been advised not to use one. They said it was better to use our own mucous clearing efforts than use a piece of equipment for Emphysema/ COPD.

I do find them quite effective.

Go well,

Pauline

I did pulmonary rehab in April and nobody mentioned this. Nearly everyone on the course had COPD.

How odd ,I was originally given a flutter device but found it a bit harsh then was given an acapella device and it is OK.I use it for bronchiectasis clearance but I also have asthma and copd (emphysema).

My pulmonologist recommended I get one and I have emphysema. I’ll try to remember to ask him next time I am there. I don’t recall the instructions that come with it warning not to use if you have emphysema. Sure would like to know why you shouldn’t use one.

due to not being thoroughly cleaned she reckoned.I woukd argue mist with lung issues are oretty good at knowing these things need a deep clean regularly!

My respiratory therapist actually gave one to each of us during our pulmonary classes. She demonstrated how to use it to remove excess mucus.

So I can only assume it’s safe to use for people with COPD.

I hope this helps.
