Taking a short hotel break on LTOT

Hello everyone Does anyone out there have experience of asking hotels if they will take a guest on LTOT in the UK , preferably Scotland? I understand what needs to be done through Vivisol but also that seeking consent from the hotel itself is up to the individual.

I am just at the start of this and have only contacted one establishment with a detailed email but have received no response as yet after 3 days and normally they are very quick. It is a lovely place which would not be too difficult for us to reach, so I am hoping it will work out.

I will pursue the enquiry of course but I would be interested to know how other people manage.

Thanks alot.

Hi, I haven't actually stayed in a hotel, but I've booked plenty of cottages. I've only ever had one not allow it. The others have been great. I always have to make sure I'm there to take delivery of the equipment though. It's a shame they haven't replied back to you. I'd keep trying. Good luck 🙂

Yes, I’ve stayed in hotels (and self catering cottages) and there has been no problem. I always phone to ask and to check that there are double plug sockets by the bed to plug in my concentrator and my ventilator. I was surprised at how many hotels have said that they have had lots of guests who use oxygen!

Hello Coachtrip,

From my limited experience so far in trying to arrange stays away from home with LTOT it can be tricky to arrange. Which 02 system do you use ? Dewar and flasks or bottles ?

Hotels and different accommodation usually don’t have any understanding of what the equipment is that we need them to be able to place for us. Other people have told me that Premier Inn in U.K. are very helpful or holiday parks likewise.

Last year I set up a LOX dewar and static concentrator to be delivered to a Travelodge in Wales for a few days. The company supplier in Wales which is Baywater, informed me on the morning I was leaving to travel that they wouldn’t supply a dewar because it had to be stored outside in shed rather than in the room. The hotel didn’t have anywhere to store it outside the room. Baywater supplied bottles instead which drove me bonkers because I find I am so limited with them. So no visits to castles or wandering the beaches.

This year I have booked a few days at study centre in Devon who were very helpful when I explained my needs and say they can accommodate the dewar for me. I will be using my usual 02 supplier which is Air Liquide.

There was, not so long ago, a member on here, BreatheEasyBe who related a successful visit to Ireland from Scotland using Vivisol to help her arrange supplies along the way. You could message her here and see if she has additional advice for you?

It is as far as I can tell very much trial and error. I wish you luck in making arrangements. Let us know how you get on won’t you ?

Go well,

Pauline

my mum had no probs . She’d take her oxygen with her everywhere. It was never an issue in hotels .

I have done lots of short breaks in hotels and caravan sites without issues. The routine I follow is to phone my own supplier (Baywater) to book a holiday stay. They then contact the company in the holiday area and book exactly the same equipment as I have at home. If there are any issues the holiday suppling company contact me, normally to request I take my own Imogen machine. Some companies do supply one.

If you can’t use the same type of equipment at your holiday stay it may be worth while contacting your oxygen nurse to do a short term prescription for suitable equipment.

Have a great holiday
