I found this on Twitter/X and thought it might be of interest. I didn't put on the link as it had a lot of advertising on it, so I just took a snapshot. You can do some research on it if you are interested.

A very helpful image. Thank you, not so many people realise just how beneficial deep diaphragm breathing is for so much besides our actual lungs. Great for calming anxiety in the wee small hours when little worries grow out of all proportion.

I think it's a wonderful way to exercise your lungs.

I've let things slip a bit over the years, but am slowly working on it now every day, I've even bought a treadmill that now started to use.πŸ™‚

I’ve got a treadmill too. It’s a godsend in winter, without it I’d get virtually no exercise.

I use it 3 times a day, but only for about 5 minutes each time, am really not very healthy at the moment, but it's all helping πŸ™‚

I am a firm believer in exercising the lungs. I lie on my back for a short while morning and evening and do three things.

One - I practice controlled breathing using an image in the shape of a TV screen or painting - in through the nose on the short up and down strokes, out through the nose on the long ones but following the eye ate the same rate on each. So shorter in than out.

Two - Now lay the hand on the ribs cage and concentrate on raising the ribs to breath into the upper chest cavity (so the top 3-4 lobes of the longs are most exercised). Ten times or so.

Three - Now move your hand down to just below your ribs on the top of your stomach. Now try to ensure the it is this area that now rises most of draw in air - diaphragm breathing. This will focus effort on the lower 4th and 5th lobes of your lungs. Ten times or so.

Then of course relax by returning to normal, steady breathing using both ribs and diaphragm.

One tip - the more you 'feel' these parts are working the more they really are!

And, if like me you have trouble clearing mucus, this is also a good time for some of that 'hurrrr' breathing that vibrates the airways and helps shift the muck!

Should we breath out through our nose or mouth ? I’m not sure, sorry

I think on this one is just through the nose. That's how am doing it.Some years ago I used to another breathing exercise that was to breath in through the nose for 5 or 6 seconds, hold your breath for 5 or 6 seconds and then breathe out through your partly open mouth for 7 to 8 seconds.

I have started to that again a couple of times a day when sitting down.
