Hi, everybody I had breathing problems last year. Went to my doctor & had a blood test that night I got a call to go straight to local hospital. Was there for14 hours but excellent service. Found build up of liquid in lungs & my ankles & lower legs were bigger. I had been cutting my socks as I thought I had bought ones that were too tight 😂. After mri test I went back to doctor who gave me the hospital report as I didn’t understand the terminology ie subpleural plaques / early asbestosis & reticular change. I don’t know why he cave me the report but asked him if I have asbestosis & he said yes. I was then put on a number of medicines. I then looked into this ( good old internet) & started an asbestosis claim. My question is has anybody else had similar, I can maybe claim IIDB but if I do I would maybe lose my pension credit?

My friend had mesothelioma and the asbestos society were brilliant with advice and getting money for her.
Thank you so much for reply
A dear ex member Plumbob had mesothelioma and made a successful claim a few years ago but it did take a long time. You can use the search bar to find older posts & replies on asbestosis and mesothelioma. Are you actually in Wimbledon? I used to live there myself, my local hospital being St George's 👋
I was exposed to asbestos many years ago and we had quite a few companies offering to take up legal claims on our behalf. We were warned off from claiming because a successful payout for asbestosis is not the same as for mesothelioma. At the time it was expected we could get 2-3 thousand for asbestosis, but if it developed into mesothelioma we couldn’t claim again. A claim for mesothelioma could run into many thousands. I don’t know the current position but like any claim a thorough read of the small print is needed.
Thank you
Ah, the ex ground has been a housing estate for many years now
I watched them at Palace & had such happy times now live too far away in lovely East Sussex
Ah lovely, several members in East Sussex. It was a travesty that the team had to move from their home ground - and I'm not even a footie fan! I moved to Gloucestershire in 2015 for cleaner air, now wishing to move east to be near family in Cambridgeshire.
All the best to you. P
Hi, If mesothelioma is diagnosed then you need to contact, in no particular order, Solicitor to put forward a claim for compensation, social Services to implement care package, MacMillan nurses for their expertise in cancer care. My brother-in-law had his claim fully settled within about 9 months, so my sister did not go through with any court proceedings. Best of luck, Chris.
Hi Wimbledon,
Yes, there is the potential of losing pension credit, with an asbestos claim. I am not sure why this compensation is penalised. If it was a personal injury claim, you would be ok and not have to pay any pension credit back, if successful, but there are different rules regarding asbestos. I would certainly look into this very carefully and heed Biker 88's advice. The solicitors involved in these types of claims and injury compensation claims are quite unscrupulous and certainly are not medically or legally qualified, in a lot of instances. They charge huge fees for their services, which I found to be very poor and they are not that interested in your personal circumstances, only how much money they can make their firm. It can also give you a lot of stress, as people can be very frustrating to deal with and your claim and honesty could be challenged.
If you go ahead, be very careful who you select to take your case on. Check reviews, etc.
On the bright side, you are allowed to have capital on pension credit. It is only when it goes over a certain figure, that your claim ceases.
Hi
I have suspected mestholioma not sure if I spelt that right, plural thickening has been shown on recent CT scan and I’m not sure about claiming, I used to was my father’s overalls .my father used to insulate pipes at the ICI chemical plant using asbestos and he had mild asbestosis.

The Citizens' Advice Bureau can be very helpful when you are starting to negotiate the difficult business of claiming. Good luck.
