Busy, busy, busy!

Hello,, everyone! Just thought I'd pop in and say 'Hello!' as i've been really busy lately and not getting much chance to look in at the Forum. I sometimes get chance to read but not much time to respond - only to very few!

I had COVID again a few weeks ago which has left me with an aversion to certain foods and smells and also a phantom smell that hits my senses from time to time. It smells like poo! I've read on line that this is a known side effect and so it will hopefully go!

Apart from that, all is well and life is good!

We're loving having our new cat, Socks, to keep us company. She's an absolute joy and we're so glad we agreed to take her on. She turns out to be nearly 15 - not 12 as we were first told, but she's still got plenty of energy to get out in the garden and chase the leaves! She can jump up onto the 6ft fence and has explored the highest levels in our bungalow. She's very loving and has become a 'lap cat'. Thanks again to Don who has taken on two 'second hand' cats in recent years and has written about them so beautifully and in such a loving way that he inspired us to have Socks.

We've been busy with the roof leaking in the conservatory; dealing with the insurance company re my iron dropping onto the lounge carpet and leaving a very visible imprint; spending hours on the phone to Vodafone who have, after nearly two years, finally arranged an engineer who was able to fix our land line and also, have finally corrected the incorrect phone number that was linked to account; we've had some unexpected lunches out with family and old friends; there have been umpteen health related visits (dentist, One You weightloss , optician, blood test) and problems with my last medication request that was inadvertantly rejected by the locum doctor instead of it being authorised (it took days to sort out and I was panicking as was running out of meds!).

Now, it's the run up to Christmas and there are more lunches planned plus the Breathe Easy Christmas party, Flower Club Christmas meeting, WI Christmas meeting, Austin 7 club Christmas party ... Oh, we're SO lucky, but I'm already exhausted!

I'm thankful that, this year, my husband and I are both well enough to look forward to all these carry ons after having years of 'may be'.

Since starting Azithromycin three times a week in January, I haven't looked back. Apart from COVID, I have stayed really well - not ONE chest infection this year! Also, I haven't fallen backwards since March and the vertigo SEEMS to have left me at last.

Nine years ago, I thought my life as I knew it was over. Now I have it back and I'm loving it!

I hope that many others are able to enjoy as much improvement in their condition as I have. I'm still not able to walk far or fast, but the scooter deals with that problem! I can breathe again and that's worth millions!!

xx Moy

My cousin has a very spoilt chihuahua called Lily!

Socks has definitely made herself at home! She's doing pretty well for an older cat and has quite a turn of speed when she's chasing a ball of foil or throwing her catnip mice around!

We had a cat called Lily once. She was tortoiseshell and had a dark smudge on the end of her nose so our 16yr old foster daughter came up with the name 'Fag Ash Lil' but we compromised with 'Lily'!

Another cat we had, called Toots, used to love a plastic carrier bag. she would dive inside it in the lounge and scoot it all the way up to the front bedroom, then turn it around and come back in it. It was hilarious to watch! She also liked to be put in the bag and 'rocked' in it.

What a great post, MoyB. So encouraging to those who are struggling at present.

Hope your phantom smell problem leaves you soon. Try smelling lots of lemons, onions and cheese :)

Yes, I've read that you can 'retrain' your sense of smell by sniffing strong smelling things. I keep trying! Yesterday, I thought it was back to normal and I even tasted a bit of my husband's steak pie which tasted just as it should. But today, the smell is back in my nose, even though I've been out all day! I blamed the cat's litter tray to begin with, but soon realised that the smell was there even when I wasn't at home.

Never mind, I'm sure it will soon go back to normal.

Lovely to hear from you.

One of the things that helped me when I first joined the forum was reading posts that let me know it wasn't always going to be doom and gloom. So, I do come on and have a moan if I need to, but also like to let people know when things are going well in the hope that my happiness might give encouragement to others.

Apart from that, when things are going well, I feel so chuffed that I want to shout it from the rooftops!🤣

Hope you are ok.

wonderful to hear from you Moy and that apart from Covid you seem to be in better health.

Snap- our iron dropped onto our living room carpet and we have a visible imprint. Haven’t done anything about it yet. Not sure insurance would want to pay out.

Glad Socks has settled in well A lap cat is lovely Keep you warm too

Take care xx

Our insurance company didn't bat and eyelid and have paid out almost the whole cost of replacement. We do have an excess, of course, but it's good to have most of the new carpet paid for. The guy I spoke to said that it's one of the most common claims they have! May be worth a try?

We were both out for most of yesterday and our lovely 'lap cat' turned her back on us and sulked when we came home! By midnight, she had decided that she loves us really and she hopped up on our bed to spend the night on our feet!

What a positive post , so glad everything is going well for you and you’ve coped with Covid ok . Apart from your Sensory Symptom , not so good . I look after my Daughters Jack Russell most days and luckily he used to run and play with my old Binkscat . He was even with her when she passed away but he gets really angry with our Neighbours Cats . Not sure he would be ok with another Cat now !!! . Hope you Have a lovely Christmas as well x
