I am prescribed amlodipine and bisopherol for high blood pressure, one of each every day. Now I have forgotten whether I have taken them today or not. I wonder if it is better to take an extra dose or miss a dose. Iris x

forgotten?
Hello Iris. Why don't you buy one of the boxes which contain 28 sections to put tabs in. Then get all of your repeats dispensed on the same day and fill each section with the tablets for one day. Then you will know if you have taken them. I have been doing this for some years. Now it is the inhalers that I can't remember if I have taken or not. Of course, I am not a doctor but if it was me I would miss a dose. These drugs work on an accumulative basis so missing one dose shouldn't cause your bp to shoot up. Your call of course.
Hi Little PomI think I would miss a dose, and start again.tomorrow, you don't know how you would feel by taking a possible 2nd dose.
Take care

I agree with Littlepom Iris, its better to miss a dose than double up. I am on both of these tablets and take the Bisopralol with breakfast and if I need it the Amolodopine with my evening meal, that way I know if I have taken them or not.
I agree with both Littlepom and Izb1, don't take the tablets today. Getting a pill box such as described by Littlepom is a good idea. easy to check if medication has been taken then.
Two excellent replies Iris and hope they help. I would say best to miss a dose than double up.
Take care. Xxx🩷🥰
I echo what has already been said. I'm notorious for forgetting whether I've taken my pills or not. Lately I've bought a fine permanent black marker pen and I now write the initials of the week (MTWTFSS) on each of the pills in the blister pack. I never doubled up on the many times I cdnt remember!
Hi Iris 😄 I agree, miss a dose. Hope you're ok xx
Hi Iris, I have a cup that I fill with my meds and supplements early in the morning and take them out during the day at the right time (breakfast, lunch & dinner) that helps me remember. But I think Littlepoms idea is probably more accurate xxx
Some really good advice. I have a tub for my morning pills - If they are still full, I have forgotten them, if empty I have. Evening is easy, Anne just gives me my three lots during the evening, it's a system that works - With just 2 tablets a pill box as previously said in best, and Sassy was 100% correct, best not to risk doubling up....
If you are not doing anything too energetic, I would wait until tomorrow. I occasionalyy miss my tablets without any serious effect., but I am not a doctor. I do however have a weekly pill dispenser, fill it up once a week, the days are marked on each little box so you know if you have had them. Take care, Chris.
My earlier reply for Littleport, was neat for you Lyd ( Iris) x
i have a system for all the meds I've been on for years, bur the newly prescribed one- 3 times a day with a meal- I find it easy to forget. i hope we both get the hang of it in time. xxxx
Hi , it’s ok to miss out meds occasionally ( forgetful) but NEVER double up it can be dangerous with some drugs. As other people have mentioned get a pill caddy, I found one in Lidl and under a fiver. Good luck. Kevin
I do wish all packs had the days of the week on the foil. Some of mine do and some don't.
I wouldn’t take a dose incase I’ve already done it. I try to have a system where at night I put my salafalk med next to my inhaler after I’ve taken it so I know I have had my inhaler. Hope that made sense. Take care Iris xx
Hi - I was always told it it better to miss one rather than double up.
Best to call your GP or 111 or any pharmacy or all of them and compare the answers 😃
It’s safest to miss a dose of any medication… you will usually see that written in the insert.
Do you have a home blood pressure monitor? I have one that fits around my wrist and it's very convenient to have. I, also, occasionally, am in doubt as to whether I took my medication or not, so what I do is I wait an hour or so, to give the medication a chance to work and then check my blood pressure. If it's higher than it normally would be after taking my meds, I know that I more than likely skipped it because my medicine seems to be very effective in bringing it down. If it's hard to tell for sure I wait a while longer and then check it again and if it's normal or closer to normal range then I feel assured that I took it.
Taking a possible second dose of Amlodipine does not strike me as being a good idea, but you can always call a pharmacy and ask to speak to a pharmacist and ask their opinion!
