Hi I have COPD and was offered a lung reduction operation at the Papworth hospital. After more pre op tests and cancelled twice the big day came, 7-10 days I would be home again. I went in on the 20th April to have the op the next morning, to cut along story short I had the op but had a bad air leek which caused surgery emphysema and so back in to surgery. Five weeks later I was home, its a lovely hospital to be in just a shame I had problems. Its nearly 5 months and yes it has improved my breathing , still getting breathless but wheezing has stopped and find my self doing more. I've now been offered the chance to have the other lung done, but thinking back to that night when I stopped breathing and back in to surgery I'm not sure.

I'm glad after all the troubles it's had a positive effect, but I can quite see why you are hesitant about a second op. Good luck, whatever you decide.
Your op has had a good effect - Really hard to offer advice if your "Heart Stopped" - What would I do, I honestly don't know - Best of luck.
Maybe ask the doc if he can do anything different to prevent the complications. I also wonder which lung you had done first? The right and left sides are pretty different anatomically so maybe the side you had done first was the more susceptible side?
Finally, I had a similar surgery and had that icky emphasema. The surgery helped me too but I hated the extra hospital time.
Good luck!

I had the same back in January, including the emphesema, and can only say how impressed I have been with the improvements. Definitely worth it for me! Maybe you can wait till the memory fades a bit for the second one?
