Carbocisteine dose

I am taking this for bronchiectasis 2 pills 3x per day. I am taking so many pills for other conditions I was wondering if cutting it to 2 pills twice a day would make a lot of difference, say taking them first thing then 12 hours later. Is everyone taking carbocisteine on the same dose ? Thanks

My Carbocisteine dose changes. Normally I take 2x2 per day with the options to go to 3x2 per day when poorly. This is adviced by my consultant. Maybe best to take advice from yout GP/ consultant .

Hi I am on the same amount as yourself plus numerous other pills, but I found that if I lessened the amount my lungs would fill up within hours and would have trouble breathing, but everyone is different, but I know I would b e lost without the tablets. Hope you soon improve and enjoy life as much as possible.

I have the opposite if I take the right amount it makes me tight cant cough any . Just been given a plastic gaget called Arobika and it helps to bring it up real fast clear airwaysThe carbensten works sometimes but sometimes I seem to need a break from it.

I've heard it said that we are all started off on 2 x 3 times a day but then, when things have improved, cut the number of c apsules down.

I now take 1 x 3 times a day but am thinking of cutting out the one I take in the middle of the day as am currently enjoying a very good phase and don't really think I need them. They are not essential, unlike antibiotics that should be taken according to the prescribed dose, and so I think it's ok to play about with them a bit and see what suits you.

You could check this out with whoever prescribed them for you, or with a respiratory nurse if you have access to them, or maybe the pharmacist.

I have found they made a big difference to me, considerably reducing the ammount of thick, sticky phlegm I was coughing up.

xx Moy

My reply is similar to Moy's Enable. If you're going to cut some out if I were you I'd cut out one capsule from the middle dose for a couple of weeks to see if that makes a difference first. I was first px two capsules three x daily at first and when stabilised was reduced to two twice daily. I know its working still because if I'm late for the morning dose I cough more (with asthma any coughing brings on more coughing, vicious circle).

When having an exacerbation or infection I usually wish I had enough carbo to take a third dose however, I get strictly 8 weeks supply and my gp surgery has been of no support since 2019, in fact my own gp has been positively obstructive. For this reason I've bought myself NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) for the last infection which I took as a middle dose.

NB I'm not a medic so I certainly don't recommend cutting out meds without consulting you respiratory nurse as least (you may not be ready).

The above is what I do personally after 8 years of gp support to manage my own conditions in Wimbledon and 8 years of a poor practice in Gloucestershire. I'm hoping to move to Cambridgeshire although the practice have upped their game in the last couple of months (after 100s of complaints) šŸ¤ž

I am on so many pills it often makes me feel sick to know I have to take them but Carbocisteinine is one of my most valued pills. I take two 3 times daily, I sometimes forget the middle dose and have noticed it makes a difference and not for the better ..

I'm prescribed 3x2per day, but during working hours I sometimes forget morecoften than take. I spoke to consultant and he said its OK so long as I don't go below the 2x2 per day. And to try and take 3x2 in sickness periods to boost health. Hope that helps.

i'm on 3 sachets a day, and take them at 9.00 am 3.00 pm and 9.00 pm ish (just before I go to bed)! I do this as if I'm up late in the morning I can still space them out through the day!

Yes I take it and sometimes it has opposite effect I get really tight chest can not get anything out. I found that giving them a break helps but I am in hospital and get told off for refusing medication. I am tight now and taken them as instructed. When I have a break everything loses again why don't doctors believe me. I am on many other meds too. Nebulizer as well and techniques to bring it up. Could not breath today because its so tight.

Try Buttercup syrup either take from the spoon or add a little hot water... its a good old fashioned medicine ... can be bought from the chemist or on Amazon.. its a small bottle for something like Ā£8 but well worth it, I also always have some Halls soothers and Mint imperials in at all times to help with shortness of breath..

I am shocked to read this! I personally have zero improvement or detioriation on Carbo. But everything else (apart from Salbutamol) WORSENS my breathing situation and nobody believes me or can help me! How can they force medication on you?? That is shocking!

Sometimes I can't tolerate the nebulizer feels to warm suffercating and sometimes I need it bad like on hot day. Its hot today but its tight and all clear nothing to come up I've done the technique huff blow candles fast blow blow bubbles in a bottle of water. Nothing . Usually something feels huge comes but it's a tiny blob. The sent them off to the lab and now I have sudomos which can make me really poorly have to stay another 5 days and have salt in nebulizer saline makes everything taste horrible. Copd emphasema is nasty desease. Many complications. When it rains I drown in it when it's hot my mouth is dry cant cough anything. It's a lot of suffering.

Hi Enable, I was on 3 x 2 carbocysteine for a 3yrs then reduced 2 x 2 a day eventually 1 x 3 a day and now swapped by gp to nacsys 600mg effervescent tablets once a day and its been a revelation and I have so much more energy and clearance techniques is morning only unless you have an exacerbation. Been life changing for me.

Hi Enable. Just to say I agree with other comments. I was on 2 tabs twice a day and i didn't think they were doing anything for me so after discussing with my consultant I stopped them altogether. BIG mistake! I was coughing constantly and just couldn't move the mucus. I started taking them again 2, 3 times a day for a month dropping to 2twice a day which is where I am now and am coughing much less and able to shift the mucus so much better.

Hi I am taking the same dose as you after it was increased by my gp. I agree that when you are takings lots of different tablets it is easy to forget a dose but I would suggest you talk to the doctor/consultant before changing your dosage.

That's the highest dose. I was on same dose I changed to liquid form much easier. Colin.

Whether I take 6 per day or none of them, they make zero difference to me. I am suffocating on tough mucus either way. How do they help you? Do they make you cough up?
