Dry Mouth caused by using my C-PAP machine overnight.
Hello everyone, I have used a C-PAP machine for over 5 years but even with the Humidifier on I still wake up with an Extremely Dry Mouth, being a mouth breather when I sleep. I notice that Boots sell an oral mouth gel called Biotene that you rub on your tongue and the inside of your mouth, and it is supposed to help with creating saliva. Does anyone else use this or does anyone use an alternative?

Hi, I've tried various different gels etc. None really worked. I now use a nose only mask and it's not quite as bad. Hope you find a way
If one is a mouth breather, how does a nose only mask deliver oxygen while one is asleep?
Good morning, My oxygen overnight goes through my Amara View C-PAP Mask that delivers Non Invasive Ventilation to my Nose and Mouth as I am a C02 retainer and this helps me flush it out of my system. I hope this explains it better to you. Best wishes. Joseph

Difficult to explain, but with a nose only mask the machine pushes the air into your nose, weather your mouth likes it or not!! I wore a nose mask after my cataract op and my mouth wasn't as dry, but I found it pressed down on my top teeth which was sore. I also didn't feel I was getting full benefit which makes sense (to me!) if you are receiving the ventilation to your nose , but still mouth breathing as well, if you get me??!!😂😂 xx

Yes, thank you, I have tried that one before it is very similar to the Amara View. The Amara View Mask sends air pressure plus additional oxygen if needed through the nose and mouth. Please see picture enclosed.
Hi Joseph260268, I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties with a dry mouth, despite you using a humidifier, I would recommend trying Xylimelts I haven’t had to use them myself using a BiPAP NIV, humidifier and ResMed F20 mask, to treat Co2 Retention as a result of Scoliosis, but my sister used them during sleep because she wasn’t producing saliva due to medication she was prescribed and they really helped her.

You mentioned you are a mouth breather and use a Amara View Full Face Mask, I’m also a mouth breather during sleep, but haven’t been able to find a suitable under nose Full Face mask that I can use comfortably, they all irritate my nostrils leaving them sore and red, you might like to try a chin strap with your mask that’s what I use, it’s a bit of a faff having to wear another thing apart from the the mask, but it works and this might stop your dry mouth at bedtime.

I switched from a full face mask (6+ years) to nasal pillows. I use a chin strap to prevent my mouth breathing. I’m using xylimelts for dry mouth and they’re very helpful.
I use the same machine but fairly new to it, I know in my options you can increase humidity, have you tried that? I have always had a dry mouth and dry eyes so I struggled too ( only used it twice) then hospital admission for nasty lung infection so haven’t been able to use it. Good luck, it’s a learning kerb .
You might want to ask your pharmacist about this, they do a marvellous job these days 👍
I'm on niv bipap.i too get v dry mouth with it so have a drink ea time I wake.ivr not tried anything for it x
