Hi Pat, welcome to the forum. I’m carer for my husband Pete who has COPD but chronic bronchitis. He coughs a lot and brings up mucous but his father had emphysema and didn’t do any of that. If you’re at all concerned then speak with your doctor.

Wishing you well xxx

I would contact your doctor just to reassure yourself. But also grab the good days while you can 😉

Hi Pat07

I have emphysema and after years of coughing/chest infections etc., I don't seem to cough that much or bring up much phlegm. Whilst I find this beneficial, I did read something which said that it could potentially lead to more excerberations and chest infections, as coughing was a natural way of getting rid of unwanted substances in our lungs. Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge could explain this a bit better than me.

Gosh, 25 years. I was only diagnosed in 2014 and am already end stage. As for the cough, I never cough any phlegm. Just a very rare dry cough.

Thank you COPD 16 For your reply. I was already stage 4 when I was Diagnosed 25yrs ago I have been through alt of hospital stays in that time an some very serious times I did PULMONARY classes for bout 1yr an then just kept using those things I learnt all my life an yes it has made a big difference an I learnt how to cope with panic attacks an I gthink once I had that under control things got so much better don't get me wrong I still have hospital stay but they have been very few an far between having a Emergency Pack to use as soon as I feel a Infection comming on has also helped keep me out of hospital I think PULMONARY CLASSES taught me aot an I always do the Exercises I was taught it's very hard to get through Panick attacks but once you learn how to control that it makes a huge difference to on your whole health so if you haven't done PULMONARY classes I strongly Recommend you do them things don't improve overnight but in the long run the difference is amazing I was giving 5yrs when first Diagnosed then 10yrs ago I after a Lung Function Test I was told to get my life in order an finish my bucket list as they gave me 1yr an 10yrs on iam still doing PULMONARY Exercises an Breathing Exercises an all the things that have helped maintain my life it might not be the way for many others an not easy but it certainly does improve ur life an changing ur Diet how much we eat taking PUFFERS Regularly is VERY IMPORNT having a Emergency Pack is vital an Exercise just knowing your limits is the main thing I'am now 68 live alone ask for help when I need it don't stress very important also Stress plays a big part in our health more so when we have an illness when you know your Limits an are aware of it it's a good thing an helps maintain your daily living.......

You certainly have got your life in order. I have an emergency pack and good support from my GP and a specialist team of nurses. As for pulmonary rehab, I did the course 7 years ago and didn't find it helpful at all. It was poorly run and I hadn't gained anything at the end of the course. Best wishes to you.

Hi CDPO16 Thank you for Reply I'm sorry PULMONARY CLASSES didn't do it for you hun an yes 29yrs ago those classes were not very well controlled or informative but I just decide if I kept doing them an used Al the tools I did learn that they would either Beniffet me or not an I have been doing them regularly eversince don't get me wrong I do still have Hospital stays but gone from 3/4 or more times a yr in Hospital to 1 every few yrs like I said it's not for everyone but made big differences for me I also us other LUNG improvement Breahing Exercise things that over the yrs have come on the market an they are Drug free an help build ur LUNG MUSSELS an used on a Regular basis I find the very helpful especially to help remove an get rid of PHELM each to there own but I can only go by things I've done an how that has helped IMPROVE my COPD we are all different an not everything works for everyone but I try different things an ways an find if it helps me it's a Bonus an yes I have tryed other things that haven't helped but stick to those that do

I wish you all the best CDOP16

Cheers
