Hi, does anyone know if Bronchiectasis qualifies you for the latest booster jab or is it only for those with compromised immunity ?

I’m in Scotland. Haven’t been invited so far but know invites are still ongoing.

Hi, I dont know if Scotland has different criteria for getting the booster. I live in England, do not have compromised immunity but am offered the booster on the basis of being clinically very vulnerable (with copd, asthma and secondary bronchiectasis).

Thank you. I have checked criteria and should be same UK wide. I have only recently been diagnosed with bronchiectasis and it is on the High Risk list. Maybe I will hear at some point - I’m sure I read that the rollout would carry on until June. Glad you’re being well looked after and being prioritised as you should be.

It certainly should be part of the criteria for a booster Puzzled8 so hoping you get your invite very soon. Xx

Interesting indeed ! Might have to employ some of those tactics . Does seem to be some confusion around it.

Hello, would have thought that bronchiectasis and age 70 would qualify for spring vaccination, do you have consultant or GP you can put question to, have you had jabs last year etc. Good luck, best regards Jean x

Puzzled8 in reply toMorrison10

Thanks Jean. Have had all previous jabs but was only diagnosed with bronchiectasis at start of this year, so never been in the at risk group until then. Think I might contact our local Health Board for some clarification. Can’t face the endless wait to speak to a GP at my surgery ! The link posted above by peege shows that there is some confusion.

I have bronchiectasis and over 70. No other health issues and am getting the jab next Thursday.

Haven't been offered a booster here locally in .Gloucestershire. Have severe COPD with Type 1 respiratory failure age 74. I miss the age definition of 75 by 5 days!

Not sure I am too bothered through the summer, will definitely have the autumn booster though.

I'm 80 with COPD and on oxygen and haven't heard a peep. Some of my neighbours are phoning to request a jab and being sorted within a week.

Could you perhaps speak to your surgery about this ? Perhaps they can offer you an appointment?

I went online and got one for the 30th April. Can't understand why no one sent for me. x

Hi puzzled8,I would go on nhs website and book a jab for yourself and tick extremely vulnerable people box.I did this in September for the 5th jab and took my paperwork with me that show my diagnosis

PaulineHM profile image
PaulineHM in reply toB0xermad

I did that, but it came back with ‘contact your doctor to discuss’ or words to that effect. No appointment offered.

on the current Gov website, it’s over 75 or severely compromised immune system, if you are due one you will get an invite. I have Aspergillosis, emphysema and a heart defect but I’m only 72 so don’t qualify. It’s mainly people who have had transplants, on chemotherapy, etc.

wizsue profile image
wizsue in reply toBiker88

You are right. I am 70 have quite of lot of medical issues including bronchiectasis, aspergillosis and asthma. I had an appointment booked for next week. Got a phone call on Saturday from the Vac centre to say they have cancelled my appointment as I now do not quality. It is only people who have a weakened or compromised immune system, those who have cancer and those who are on steriods permanently with a dose of 20mg a day or over! I tried the surgery but they were very unhelpful and said nothing they could do. The respioratory department couldn't help either. Keep yourselves safe everyone.

I don't think it does. I was told a while ago I did qualify with pseudomonas & bronchiectasis but for the 3rd booster I was told not. Very confusing. 🤔

Puzzled8 profile image

Yes it is confusing. Bronchiectasis appears in the High Risk group but not in the Immune Suppressed group - maybe that’s where the confusion has arisen.

Its age that counts. Over 75 at present here in Wales. xx

Hi, i'm in Scotland too. I understood that the early one is just for over 75 and immune suppressant. Then later in the year we will all be offered it. I was reading an interesting research paper that a scientist friend had sent me re the vaccines and it read that they had found the vaccine was more effective when given as an annual dose. In view of the time stretching between jabs that is where it is going, so it will be administered the same time as flu. I guess it's watch this space!

Puzzled8 profile image
Puzzled8 in reply tocolourpassion

Yes, hopefully it will become an annual one at same time as flu. I’m not particularly desperate to have the spring booster - just wondered what the criteria were - and there certainly seems to be some confusion around it.

I have Bronchiectasis, Asthma, past heart attack, rhinitis and have always been offered the jab but not yet been offered this time yet .. I must add though in all of the time it's been ravaging through I've worn a mask at all times when I HAD to go out and I really believe it saved me from catching it ...So don't take the risk ... keep away from others as much as you can and always wear your mask ...
