glad you like it sassy, I wrote it many years ago, we had that apple tree and One day I was feeling poetic, watching my young sons climbing and trying not to stop them!
That's an unusual poem Iris. I read it yesterday but was uncertain of how i might respond. Reading the poem led me to read the origin of the Christmas Carol "Jesus Christ the Apple Tree" and to research the practice of wassailing Wassailing was to encourage the spirits into ensuring a good harvest the following season. It takes place on the twelfth night after Christmas and involves a visit to a nearby orchard for singing, dancing, drinking and general merrymaking.
The words of the carol are very interesting. Do you know it?
And so it was this Monday morning that I read you had written the apple tree verse. It IS unusual and quite charming.
I remember as a boy the fun we had climbing particular trees, and how far we dared to climb up. For c my part i dared only to climb two or three branches whilst others climbed higher. These trees were in a local park; our adventure park and probably my best days.
Thanks so much for posting.
A really touching poem one that brings a tear to your eyes lovely
That’s really lovely, so well written that every bit as I read it took me back to those days, didn’t have our own tree but always took them to places they could do that! I love writing too thanks for displaying it
thanks, I remember lying on the grass, watching my boys climbing the tree, which was close to our boundary with the neighbour, and hoping they didn’t complain about them being nosey!
No one likes kids when they don’t have them or having them harmlessly climbing a tree but then they complain when when they’ve been chased from everywhere they’re making their own fun to turning delinquent from total boredom but I loved those days, absolute bliss (& my daughter is Lyd - was a tomboy one minute but then girly girl - kept her brothers old hand me downs for trees and mud 😆)
