I have had severe asthma for many years. Since Nov I have had repeated lung infections. Now having tests for Bronchietasis. I take 3 inhalers , montalukas and fexofenadine but this isn’t controlling it now. Just been put on carbocisteine to help clear my lungs. Hoping things improve and I get to the cause of this three month flare up. Being part of a community who understands the daily struggle will be very helpful.

Hi and welcome. I’ve been on this forum for several years, find it helpful. I was born with rare condition PCD, and have bronchiectasis as well as sinusitis etc. I take 4 carbocisteine daily, use an inhaler for hour twice daily, and use spirometer and Aerobika. I’m also on 1 daily 250 Azithromycin. I’m pleased that they keep me active although don’t go out often. Jean

Thank you for your replies. I have a sample in and a CT booked. I am hoping it’s just the winter flu virus lingering longer than normal. My asthma is generally controlled on the meds I was on.

Which inhalers are you on?Nothing changed for me buntil the right inhaler was found, which are Alvesco and Atimos. Atimos was the big change.

have you been tested for a fungal infection specifically Aspergillosis, this condition makes asthma symptoms worse and is not improved with antibiotics. Diagnosis by X-ray, CT scan, broncoscopy and specialist blood test, Aspergillosis.org for lots of good info.

Welcome , I had similar journey but asthma not severe. Now on Fostair and Incruse. Avoid small children if poss and take immune boosting supplements. Keep well hydrated , eat and sleep well. Bronchiectasis is not a death sentence and can be managed but you have to look after yourself. Wear a mask in public if you can stand it. Good luck!

I have been on carbosisteine for some years and cannot in all honesty say whether they have helped or not! I may find out if I stopped taking them, but have been told not to stop. I have had no problem with them taking them either either
