Hi all, been on here for a while but don’t post a great deal, interesting to read all the advice people have.

I have been diagnosed with ACOS and a dysfunctional breathing pattern, as I have issues with my sinuses I tend to breath through my mouth as feel I can’t get enough air in, been given Francis nasal dilators to open the airway

Wondered if anyone else has a similar issue and how you cope

Hi there,

Yes I have ACOS and used to be a habitual mouth breather.

In short, I trained myself out of it by taping up my mouth with micropore tape, particularly at night. I recall it didn’t take too long to let go of mouth breathing.

Of course breathing through the nose is much kinder to ourselves, especially when managing our oxygen intake, whether or not we use supplementary oxygen or not.

Go well.

I can relapse in to mouth breathing if I am not careful .

Check out Patrick McKeown videos on you tube about gentle , gentle nose breathing .

I actually spoke to my consultant about mouth breathing as I understand something clever involving nitric acid (?) occurs in our nose as we breathe. I was advised not too worry unduly, it's the bodies way of trying to get more oxygen. I've stopped worrying but am still aware when I'm doing it and correct it.

I can’t breath much through my nose as it was flattened when part of air raid shelter fell on it during war. NHS have always refused to try reconstruct it. I have PCD including sinusitis (see forum on here) I breath mostly through mouth, and don’t think it’s problem. Best regards, Jean
