Hi, I think that most of us will have had experience of these at one time or another. Prednisolone is best taken in a morning with or after food. Doxy is taken once a day, usually in a morning. Both can be taken together. I have never had a problem with doxy but I know that others have experienced gastric upsets. If this is taken with or after food that should be avoided.

It's important to finish the course of both medicines and it will usually take about 3 days before you begin to feel some benefit.

It is usually twice a day for the first day then once per day after. I haven't had any problems with either of these meds x

As Izb1 says, Doxy is usually twice on the first day only then once per day. Check how many you've been given, thoroughly read the leaflets and instructions for both medicines. Doxy is a good antibiotic, I always take with a little food - I checked with a gp once about taking abs on an empty stomach and he said not to worry, always take with food if it helps to avoid tummy upset (I have a weak tum). With prednisolone I always take as early as possible in the mornings (usually 55am With an oatcake or two). I can't explain how hugely important to read all the leaflet and pharmacist's directions on the label - so easy to mis-read when you're feeling lousy. Hope you feel better soon. P

These are my emergency pack. They work. Doxicyclene starts to work quickly. The benefit can usually be felt within 24 hours. Along with an increased dose of prednisolone you shoild ferl better very soon.

I’ve taken both those drugs (once for pneumonia). Doxycycline is very effective . The steroids are very good for upper respiratory things . I’ve had those as well but not so much. Good luck. Take as directed - you can see from all of these replies they are prescribed often.

Hi Doggie,

I avoid dairy products for an hour before doxy and an hour after. To avoid stomach/digestive problems it is best to remain upright for an hour after taking the pills - avoid bending over. If I do this I have no problems with Doxy. I normally take the steroids a few hours before, to avoid overdosing myself with medication all at once, but I am a very low body weight.

I see lots of replies but I thought I would chip in as these are my standard emergency meds for exacerbations of COPD. Doxy is my stand by anti-biotic at 100mg size and taken two first day and then either 7 or 14 one a day; I have found 14 days works best for me.

The steroidal Prednisolone is taken at a higher dose for me as it is an emergency supply - 6x5mg per day for 5 days, then graded down by one tab a day to zero (it can also be 2 every second day reduction). If you are taking 5mg a day it sound like a maintenance dose.

Both are best taken after food but a slice of toast or half a banana is enough to give your stomach acids something to work on.

I always follow the advice on the pack and in the monograph inside; I urge you to do so too.

hi yes I have. Doxycycline is for infections and Prednisolone is a steroid that is needed because you’ve probably got a really bad infection. I’ve had them both. Not long ago had steroids.
