Hi my name is Robin and I'm 69, I retied 3 year ago after 51 years as a Carpenter and Joiner. I looked forward to retirement and life in our new home, but that wasn't to be as I'd been living with bronchiectasis and emphysema for nine years which had slowly got worse. 2 months after I retied I suddenly got a lung infection and that was it, put on steroids and antibiotics. Since then on steroids weened off them, back on weened off back on and so I'm now on 6mg a day. I'm now doing exercise rehab which I thought was helping to start with but I'm feeling so breathless this morning I'm not sure now. I should be happy as I've been to Papworth Hospital and been offered a Lung reduction operation early in the new year so lets see what happens.

Hi and welcome Robin, sorry your retirement hasn't been what you hoped for. Quite a few of us have found ourselves in the same position. I haven't been involved with Papworth but believe they have an excellent reputation so I'm sure that you are in good hands there. Good luck with your surgery in the New Year if you go ahead with it. Carole.
Hello and welcome to this friendly, funny and informative forum. I understand exactly what you mean, sometimes I (most of us I expect)get cross/down that this is NOT the retirement I/we planned or envisaged. But, hey, I do have a blue badge.🤣 Sorry, but sometimes humour is the only way out. Most of the time I manage to accept this but there are tears and tantrums, we are human. There has been evidence to suggest that exercise has improved lung function marginally, my latest lung function test shows no decline which is proof enough for me, so continue with pr but let the respiratory physios who facilitate the sessions know how you are feeling.
Welcome to the forum.wishing u well with surgery x
Nice to see you on here. You can rant and rave and we’ll share you worries with you. Be assured we will understand all you’re going through. Good luck with the op. Best wishes, Diane 😊
Hi Robin, so sorry to hear your story, life can be so cruel. I hope that your operation goes well in the new year & your health improves so you can enjoy your well earned retirement.
Kindest regards Sue
Welcome to the forum, Robin. Several people on this site have been offered lung reduction. I hope they will be in touch soon.
