Copd onset of cold and covid jab due.quick response please!

I woke up with thick head cold this morning and covid jab due at mid day. Usually colds go to chest and take weeks to shift with COPD flares. I also have rhumatoid arthritis.

Should I postpone jab?

I know site does not permit medical advice but community experience is much valued!

Hi Hopeful, if you don’t have a fever and don’t have covid then you can go for your jab. I’m not a medical person but would advise you to try and contact your GP if possible or go to have jab and speak to someone there.

Hoping you feel better soon. Xxx

Thank you for replying. My jab venue advised leaving it and rebooking which I have done.

Sassy's right. Contact your doctor. Or is there a helpline for advice about the jab? Best wishes.

Just a thought, you could always get to the vaccination centre early and ask a medical person if you can't get through to the doctor. I believe it could be the antibiotics you'll get for the possible onset of a chest infection that could be a problem with the work of the vaccination - I'm not medical either so try the helpline at 9am.

Good luck - and get yourself some effervescent vitamin c 1000mg and drink at least twice per day to help fight the cold.

agree max vit c - but Nb. Some people find they have diarrhea taking more than 1000. So fine as long as you’re near the loo x hope you feel better soon

I used to find that with tablets however, never ever with the effervescent ones in plenty of water.

that’s great - but more than one fizzy one and I’m having to stick close to home . I must be a sensitive soul haha

weird isn't it, I suppose we're all different. They've just saved me yet again from succumbing to an infection, I really thought I'd reached the point of no return but woke today and loads better already

hope you're feeling better

It might be worth contacting 111 for advice……?? Maybe they can advise you what to do?

In the meantime do you Covid tests? Anything presenting should (definite in our circumstances) be treated with cautious and possible Covid.

Thank you. tested negative yesterday

From what I’ve read anecdotally might be worth testing a few days, seems to be showing on tests 2-3 days after symptoms show.

An 86 year old friend with lung problems had a cold but decided to get the covid vaccine. He is now on oxygen in a High Dependency Unit at the local hospital with pneumonia. The vaccine on top of the infection gave his immune system too much to do.

Glad you got sorted Hopeful1 , they wouldnt have give you the jab if you were unwell anyway. I wouldnt have any vaccines if feeling unwell you can always cancel and rebook . Hope you now recover well x

It was explained to me by a doctor why people need to wait till recovery, if they are suspected of having or do have covid or flu. If you take a vaccine while unwell, the effectiveness and longevity of the protection is compromised. Meaning, the vaccine does not necessarily increase your current symptoms, it simply does not give the level of protection you would expect from a vaccine. Please speak to your doctor about this. Get well soon xxx
