Ventolin use

With asthma Ventolin is the atomiser that is first used by doctors so they can establish how bad your asthma is. I tried 3 different types but settled on Symbicort. Then I was 2 puffs morning, noon & night. After a year I am now down to 2 puffs in the morning every second day. You do have to go to a doctor to get the subscription and then it’s up to you to reduce your reliance on the “puffs per day” It’s taken 4 years for me to get the correct type and dosage.

I hope this helps

Ventolin is a reliever and standard issue for anyone with lung issues. It is used as and when needed.

Symbicort is a preventer inhaler which opens the airways and is usually prescribed to take 1 or 2 puffs twice a day. There are many different preventers and another common one is Fostair which I am on. It can take time to find the one which is the most effective for you.

hypercat54 explained everything well! The other thing to add is that even when you feel well you should continue to take your preventer inhaler because one, it probably is the reason you’re feeling better and also asthma can become problematic very quickly so taking your preventer should hopefully keep you from needing too much ventilin.

However if you are needing your ventilin a couple of times a week or more, you probably need to see a doctor or asthma nurse because your asthma isn’t being well controlled.
