Hi I always read your posts, but not posted for ages.

My question is how is traction bronchiectasis different to bronchiectasis

Hi Auntiesue82 I have bronchiectasis but I have not heard of Traction Bronchiectasis. I really hope that someone on here can help you with your question. Good luck x

As I understand it, it is distortion of the airways due to fibrosis in neighbouring lung tissue. This kind of bronch does not have all of the characteristics of other forms of bronch.

Thanks, could you possibly tell me more, I am really confused.I asked my gp for a referral to a consultant, he said he would ask my questions in a letter to the consultant ,he then said I didn’t have bronchiectasis, I was delighted, then my respiratory nurse called to say some one would be coming to further instruct me on bringing up mucus, I told him what the doctor told me. He said he would talk to the consultant and get back to me, now I am told I have traction bronchiectasis possibly due to childhood phuemonia and radiotherapy when I had cancer.

Is this good news or bad.

Please if you or anyone knows about traction bronchiectasis I would really appreciate it

I know you are well informed about bronchiectasis, I always read your posts and you have helped me a lot in the past

I have an element of the three other forms of bronch and my knowledge is as a patient with those. I don’t want to talk about traction bronch because it is not in my experience. I have heard of radiotherapy resulting in damage but we shouldn’t speculate. Childhood infections are what usually leads to the other types of bronch.Unfortunately, GPs and nurses know very little about all forms of bronch and traction seems to be even less known. The best thing that I suggest you do is get in touch with your consultant through their secretary and ask for a proper and knowlegable explanation. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
