Air travel.

Hi. I've recently had my oxygen therapy hours increased to 24/7. Is there anybody in this forum that has to do this? Also would like to know if it's still possible to fly. I have COPD, emphasema and pulmonary hypertension. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I have been on 24/7 oxygen for around 15 years now and always use to holiday abroad until the pandemic. It is certainly doable but not that easy to arrange as you will need not only oxygen for the flight, but also to arrange a concentrator for your accommodation plus for going out and about. Be aware that not all airines will supply oxygen on board. If U can help further let me know, Ruth

Most airlines will let you take an inogen 5 on board. This goes up to 6litres. To take on board you have to have a fit to fly test by the hospital your under. This will tell you how many litres you will need. You'll need this in writing for the airline. There is a world wide oxygen company that will arrange a concentrator at your destination. Its not cheap mind. Around £500 for the week. If your not on many litres there are cheap machines that are small enough to fit in suitcase that you can buy.

Thanks for the reply. I have the G5 but jet2 told me on Saturday that it's not on the approved list, although it is the most up to date model. Did get a quote from a company for a concentrator at £690 for two weeks. Waiting on a quote from Pure 02 for the whole package.

That's really strange as all other airlines accept inogen. Good luck to you, its a nightmare trying to sort.

Unfortunately today I failed the fit to fly test. Gutted is an understatement. Thanks for your help.

I know how that feels. Gone from holidays abroad 3 times a year to not being able to fly. Its soul destroying on top of everything else. I was even refused travel on a ferry as too many hours. I've started seeing places in uk that I've never been. Always looked forward to holidays. Wish you all the best x
