Your brown inhaler is the preventative inhaler. Your blue inhaler is your rescue inhaler so if your asthma is well controlled you shouldn’t need to use blue one every day.
As Bevvy says your brown inhaler is a long term preventive inhaler, probably Clenil modulate and is used to prevent symptoms in both mild, moderate and severe asthma and your blue inhaler probably salbutamol and trademarked as ventolin is used as a rescue inhaler which should give you relief of a sudden onset of symptoms within about 15 mins but isn't normally used on a regular basis and only when you feel the need to use it. Always your blue it acts imediatly to open the airways. (Relever) then your brown can get furter into your airways ( long acting bronco dilator) and for best affect always use a spacer. If you are in or near Norwich Breath Easy Norwich is meeting in March it would be good to see you thear 😊
Hi Norwichicon, you should be taking your brown inhaler daily as a preventer inhaler. Your blue inhaler should only be used if you are feeling short of breath as it is a reliever inhaler. Hope this helps. If in any doubt speak to your asthma nurse (usually at your surgery). Take care, Maximonkey
That is what the Asthma nurse told me but the brown one does nothing at all and i need the blue one so i can breath comfortably. I am going to see her again this week but she won't be happy about it!!
Hi, are you taking the brown one, 2 puffs morning and night? If so it may take a week or two before you feel the benefit as it has to build up in your system. Only use the blue reliever inhaler if you are doing something energetic. You do need to see the asthma nurse as you either need another inhaler or you are using the brown one incorrectly. Don't overdo the blue one as you will start to shake. Take care and good luck with your nurse. Maximonkey
When I was on the brown inhaler possibly Becotide(preventer) I was told to use my blue inhaler (Ventolin) first to open the airways. But fairly recently there has been a change of thought, that they don't want Asthmatic's taking so much of the blue inhaler (Ventolin/Sabutimol) so as it is still effective when required in an emergency. There are some inhalers now that can act as a reliever and preventer such as Fobumix. It may be worth talking to your Doctor or Asthma Nurse.
