good morning,i have had asthma since i was 7yrs old, also had pneumonia at 5yrs old with recurring bouts of bronchitis until mid twenties.I have been well controlled until 7yrs ago then had recurring chest infections and uncontrolled asthma,i eventually had CT scan January 2021 and was diagnosed with bronchiectasis which was a relief unfortunately got pseudomonas last summer and struggled since .I have been told many a time that its a CT that can diagnose bronchiectasis only,it can be seen on chest xray as well once its more defined.I joined here last year and many people also struggle but can offer sound advice. My peak flow is between 190 and 240 on a good day.Get proper advice,i wish you luck 🙂x

I have bronchietasis and asthma

At my 6 /12 monthly consultant check ups it always Ct scans I get.If my gp thinks I have a chest infection they send me for an xray.

I always thought it it was CT scan to check the current situation of my bronchietasis. If I am honest I don't really know.

morning, teddyd yes it is CT scan that diagnoses bronchiectasis, but i was in hospital last november and it showed on my chest xray ( that was after i was diagnosed with pneumonia in casualty, but when respiratory team saw xrays they said my bronchiectasis had caused more changes ).have a good day 🙂

I hope you are on the mend . Thank you for sharing, it is interesting to know what others peoples experiences are .

Hi busygardener, I too am 64 and asthmatic since my early 20's. After a few misdiagnoses for a chronic productive cough lasting 12 months(!!), and lockdown stopping my surgery seeing folk f2f, was FINALLY given a CT scan in April 2021, and there, lo & behold, was bilateral Bronchiectasis. Huge relief to know what it was, but a continuing battle to get an appointment with Respiratory Physio and balance all my meds. Very short of staff and funding in the NHS in north Wales so waiting lists are just frightening, even if the referral is marked 'urgent'........ I had 2 X Rays but nobody spotted the bronch. Test results "go missing", phone messages don't get passed on etc, I have even know new meds going on my repeat prescription list with the wrong dosage. Good job I have had this forum and the BLF website to do my own research. We plod on!!! Xxxx

morning its a wonderful feeling to eventually get a diagnosis instead of going backwards and forwards to gp .Last summer my GP admitted dhe didnt know what to do with pseudomas and IV meds so had to contact local hospital I am 64 yrs too and trying to hang on at work til 66yrs but recently had 4 months of sick with 2 lots of iv antibiotics and a hospital stay ,being positive now i know more and gaining reassurrance from other members of this forum 🙂

Hello, I too have Asthma (late onset) and Bronchiectasis. I also had Pseudomonas and spent several years in and out of hospital on IV antibiotics. After treatment for cancer, I haven't been bothered by it, but developed a whole raft of other conditions ! My Asthma has got worse though. I'm 70.

so sorry to read about your ailments,we all seem to start falling apart at a certain age lol.I hope everything has been sorted re cancer diagnosis .A lot of people get age onset asthma and can not understand why they have it when they get older, one of my friends has got it at the age of 75yrs and she wondered whether it was due to the chemicals we used for sterilising instruments when we were young, its a thought but cant see it going anyone .I do find this forum very helpful and reassurring, have a lovely day
