I was ill at the weekend & was rushed into Hospital which they put down to an Exacerbation (which i agree)what i found was being put on a nebuliser really helped & im wondering if it may be worth getting one for home. I found my many inhalers i have did nothing to help me. I got discharged last night & have the community nurses visiting daily to continue with my treatment. Can anyone offer any advice on what portable neb to use & where i can purchase one x

Hi, sorry about your exacerbation and hospital stay .You will need to discuss the issue of nebulisers with your health professional as the nebule medication has to be prescribed .There are pros and cons of their use .
You could check with the BLF helpline open to UK residents during office hours on 03000 030 555 .
Hope you’re feeling better Julie and recover well. You do need to speak with your doctor regarding a nebuliser. Pete wouldn’t be without his but it was given to him by the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. Best wishes to you. Xxx💕
As said by others there is no point in purchasing a nebuliser before speaking to your gp. Many GPs refuse to prescribed nebules for the machine so nebuliser then worthless.Fortunately I am prescribed nebules and have a purchased nebuliser. If gp agrees then come back or private message me and am more than happy to give you details.
I have COPD (no asthma). Pulmonary nurse told me to nebulise saline if I feel an exacerbation coming on or during an exacerbation. It is very helpful indeed. Ihave an OMRON NE C28P from Amazon, not overly expensive. But as has been said on here already, discuss with Dr because in some cases they are not advised. Hope you find a solution soon
I’m guessing you’re meaning for COPD rather than asthma? I’m not sure in regard to COPD but know that home nebulizers aren’t hardly prescribed for asthmatics because in general, by the time you need a neb you’re poorly enough to need medical attention. But I don’t know with COPD.
I have Bronchiectasis & finding I'm having more flare up especially now theres more traffic on the roads & more people back in offices. You would think covid don't exist In some places its scary
Hi Julie my nebulizer is from the Red Cross my community nurse sorted it for .e and they come out every year and service it. It's worth asking your nurse about one . Good luck and have a good day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx
My nebuliser is on loan from the community respiratory team. It’s serviced by Mediquip. If you google it,you could ring them.
When I was discharged from his with a borrowed new I rang them, they were helpful and informative. Really you need to speak to them because the nebulas have to be prescribed. BY GP. Ask your community nurses. I hope you feel better soon
Yes.. I get mine from the community.. Medequip service it each year. I use it 2x daily with 7%saline to try to enable the mucous to come up. In addition to taking 2x2 carbocisteine I think it helps Also was put on azithromycin 3 x weekly to help stop exacerbation :that is since 11 years ago. Good luck!
Hi Julie, sorry to hear about your exacerbation and hope you’re feeling better. I’ve just been prescribed saline to nebulise (for bronchiectasis) so have been doing some research. The respiratory nurse said that I had to buy my own nebuliser (although some health trusts apparently supply them - so worth checking!). As I have pseudomonas too, I wanted something which had cups which could be boiled for sterilisation. She suggested a company called Evergreen who specialise in nebulisers. They were really helpful on the phone and I’ve ended up buying a Pari with reusable cups. Haven’t tried it yet- that’s today’s entertainment 😉. Hope you find something that works for you. Good luck 😊
Hi 👋 I have a Medix AC 2000 nebuliser. It’s the best thing I’ve done to treat my asthma flare ups at home, avoiding emergency hospital visits.
My health fund paid for half of the cost and the nebuliser was also on special at the chemist.
Here in Australia I haven’t thus far had any trouble obtaining the salbutamol vials for it. I also mix in atrovent when the wheeze and rattle are present.
I noticed whenever my asthma really flared up I would be put on a nebuliser at the doctors’ surgery. It was effective for me so I asked to be prescribed one and have benefitted greatly.
I have PCD, inc bronchiectasis. Also have pseudomonas infection or other nasty most of this year. I Nebulise Salbutamol twice daily, in addition to antibiotics.
