Post-Covid Switching from COPD to Asthma

I am a COPD patient for the past 5 years time and with Fev1/FVC around 60%, with occasional sinusitis without any breathing trouble. never have elevated IgE or Eoshinophil. Recently, after 3 months of post covid recovery, I have wheezing and elevated IgE > 455 IU/ml. Can COPD change to Asthma?

In addition, I have a dizzy feeling in the morning and My eye power changed (-3 to -2.5) (Visibility increased). Does anyone have a similar experience or thought on that?

Short answer is no COPD can’t change to asthma. However you can develop asthma at any age and could have done this. BUT some people post Covid are having continued breathing issues (Long Covid). Highly possible that this is what the issues is. Really only doctors can advise you and you should be talking to them and discussing the situation.

Thanks for the reply. why not?

GPs refer from one specialist doctor to the other.

My new pulmo handles predominantly children, he has a leaning toward asthma, and he ignores my old reports. ENT said everything was normal.

Long Covid is a term used to brush aside symptoms and doctors' way of saying we don't have clue. if we are feeling wheeze, there must be a physical mechanism to correlate covid and wheezing(the symptoms I don't have even during covid).

Presently I am getting the look from other specialist's which I get when I tell Pulmo's that I don't smoke (" Dont lie").

Few more referrals. Hope to get a grip on it.

The test for asthma is spirometry with reversibility testing Maverick. Maybe you could see if you can organise that? Other than that you can do a rough test at home by taking your peak flow , taking 4 puffs of Ventolin waiting 20 mins and repeat peak flow. If it is asthma your peak flow should rise quite considerably

Thanks For the suggestion. I gonna do a complete PFT to differentiate. I am just curious to know asthma and COPD continuum or entirely different entities.

I've had COPD for about 14 years and have only developed asthma in the past few years. Took a while to diagnose it with spirometry. Hope you get it sorted.
