Hello everyone.I'm suffering from hypersensitivity and inflammation of the lungs. It was caused by exposure to dust in a chicken shed 7 years ago. Inflammation of the lungs and pain has been well controlled by Fostair 200 for six months.Exposure to tiny amounts of fumes or dust is a source of flare ups.At these times I increase the dose to 300 and use cocodamol for the pain.At the moment I am experiencing a flare up which after 14 days is not getting better. It is interesting to note that treatment with steroid inhalers is less systemic and more local than tablets. Therefore the bad effects tend to be less. However as the dose increases, so do the risks.Does anyone else have experience of a similar problem and perhaps some advice? My best wishes to you all from Alun

Lung pain and inflammation
I think it is very much a case of needs must as the devil drives alunrob.I take Fostair 200/6 for asthma, which although different from your condition, is similar as it too involves inflammation.
If I’m in a flare I add in a two extra doses mid afternoon, making a total of 6 doses ( recommended by my consultant to avoid prednisone)
I do believe there are people who take more, but best to check this out on the Asthma U.K. site if no one here does.
It would seem, like you say, that high doses of Fostair are less risky than the dreaded prednisone but if prednisone is needed, prednisone is needed. Nasty little beast, but a miracle worker for me.
Hello Troilus, yes I think that taking Fostair is likely to cause fewer long-term problems than a systemic steroid like Prenisolone.I am happy to learn,I think, that you feel the same and that your condition is effectively controlled b y it. For me,it is very difficult indeed to avoid all these triggers to my pain. When I have a flare up of pain,I increase the Fostair and take cocodamol. This is quite effective but it can take a fortnight for the pain to go away.During these times I feel quite miserable and am forced to live like a recluse for fear of meeti g another trigger.I'sure you will agree with me that but for medical science, life would not be worth living.I wish you all the best Troilus and thank you most warmly for replying to my post, from Alun.
