I have been struggling for the last 3 years with COPD .Latterly a walk of 200 yards would mean at least 6 stop to get my breath back, 7 months ago I bought an Oximeter. My oxygen levels were reasonable in the 90,s but my pulse rate at times were as low as 35 fluctuating to 55.My doctor advised a 24 hour heart monitor and a couple of weeks later rushed into hospital and a pacemaker fitted . My breathing has improved and I now walk 200 metres without stopping.. A longer walk results in pain in my hips and knees and my oxygen levels vary from 8.5 to 9.4.
Advice please re Oxygen-air compressors.

You should ask your doctor about an assessment for oxygen therapy. It may not be an appropriate treatment for you and a proper assessment is the only way to know.
Excellent advice from CDPO16 and your oxygen levels could as much be related to your cardiac issues as they may be to your COPD and the only safe way is to ask for a proper ambulatory oxygen assesment.Ski's and Scruff's already on LTOT and ambulatory oxygen so we do know quite a bit about the issues involved.
Hiu mikef. I agree with both of the previous replies. I am on ambulatory Oxygen and this can only be requested by youtr GP or Consultant and they always get the respiratory team to do an assessment and test first to confirm that it will benefit you. Good luck. John
Others have given you excellent advice. Basically in some people gases are retained within the blood if extra oxygen is given this can cause changes which actually causes poor oxygen perfusion and can cause real problems. There are ways to remove retained gases. To be safe you need an assessment of your individual needs.
