I am new here. My profile describes my situation, and I would like to know whether any COPD sufferers have tried the device AirPhysio with regard to the easing of mucus formation or expelling.

I have the same problem I have tried most things I do have carbestine which help a little

Lots of previous posts and replies on the air physio if you put the name in the search box. It’s based in accepted science, which is more than can be said for some of the devices about, but if you would benefit from an OPEP (oscillating positive expiratory pressure) device, they should be provided on prescription by the NHS. Air physio isn’t endorsed by the NHS, as there are better designed, more cost effective options out there.

I increase my Carbocisteine tablets or otherwise known as Mucodyne, to 2 four times a day. This breaks down the mucus. xxSheila 💕

I agree with Charlie. There are a couple of excellent devices available on the NHS if your medical team feel they will help expel mucus. I can recommend AeroBika, which cleared my mucus like magic when I was very bad. I forget the name of the other device, which some of the others on this forum also swear by, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can tell you. Good luck. There are plenty of us here dealing with this pesky problem.

Yes I use it. Hospital taught me autogenic drainage to clear it myself but I find the Air Physio much easier.

My own physiotherapist is not a great fan of any of the devices including the NHS ones. She believes the various breathing techniques such as huff cough etc do a better job. However devices are a bit like Marmite some like them and find them helpful whilst others do not. I believe it is a personal choice.

I find that if I sing for 1 to 2 hours a day non stop it stops it forming BUT when I leave it off after a week or so it returns. so I have to do it every day or suffer, there is another way I have heard of it is for the vagus nerve to be cut and that stops it making the mucus. I would rather sing everyday and it helps the breathing too. good luck.

Hi Chavette

I looked at this some time back and there was a general online consensus that this is a scam. Just google "Is Air Physio a scam or legit" and then you can make up your own mind. I didn't purchase it - based on all that I read.

Good luck

Kevin

Hi Chavette and welcome to the forum.

We are not aware of any independent research on the efficacy of the AirPhysio for people with COPD. If this is something you are considering purchasing, we would advise you to check with your Healthcare Team before doing so, to ensure they are okay for you to use it. If you would like to call us and chat to one of our nurses about the general management of your COPD including tips on managing mucus do give us a call on 03000 030 555.

Take care

For me I find walking is the best way to move my mucus the carbosistines do loosen it but walking helps clear it, I walk three or four times a day weather permitting. I think with copd you have to try to stay as active as possible it's not always easy when your lungs are full of mucus but slow and steady once I get going my lungs will clear x
