Why wait 2 weeks

Nanny1086 profile image

I had a routine chest X-ray last week . Today I had a letter from my GP asking me to make a telephone appointment in 2 weeks time ... why ? If there’s no change why not say it’s ok ... if there’s a change why wait 2 weeks ..?

I have asthma. Bronchiectasis. COPD

Oh dear that can be annoying! I reckon That he would have you back quick smart if there was a problem. Like if there was an infection you would be told to come in for a script. The

I was told at my GP practice that they wouldn’t have results till two weeks after chest x-ray. Reckon if there was anything worrying you would have a repeat chest x-ray or see a specialist, so probably just slow process at GP practice and no need to worry

X ray reports usually take up to 2 weeks to be sent to the doctor who requested it. This letter may just have been sent to ensure that your doctor has received the report before you see him/her. Some GPs like to get an annual chest xray done for people with lung disease just, as you said, a routine check.

It's good that you are having a follow up appointment. My GP has never done this after a routine x ray and I have always had to phone the surgery if I wanted to know the result.

Gosh, 6 months is a long wait and to have to wait for results too adds to the worry and really is poor practice.

I once got a chest CT result from a GP quite some time before an appointment with a consultant but I wasn't coughing up clots of blood. It must have been a very frightening and worrying time for you.

i was also sent for a chest x-ray last friday and i was told it would be early this week for the results which sounded ambitious! My mother in law works in the Lung Health department where i visited and she told me that if they saw something on the initial x ray i would have been told to wait in the lounge whilst the images were sent on to be reviewed because although they don't advertise it the department is a one stop shop and patients with abnormalities as sent for CT scans same day. Fingers crossed

I have regular check up X-rays, I have the X-ray then go back to the consultants clinic and have a lung function test. Normally about an hour after the X-ray I get to see the consultant and my X-ray. As mentioned before if the radiologist sees anything of concern on the X-ray it will be normally checked straight away.

I agree, it is very annoying when we have to wait for results like this. We don’t need the stress of waiting.

I think if gp ordered chest X-ray then usual time is around 2 weeks for results to get back to them. If a consultant in hospital wants results whilst you are there then much quicker. They can’t do this for everyone or queues of people waiting for X-rays would be even more long. As others have said they do have a quick look just in case but otherwise have to wait.

I hope this means simply that you have a caring GP surgery, and your doctor wants to have a chat about your general health. 🤞🤞🤞Good luck and best wishes.
