yes it happened to me too vittorio Steroid induced diabetes type II. Its better than a type I diagnosis that is for sure. A bind about carb restrictions though.

The steroids will be a problem with diabetes, suggest checking with diabetic nurse about this.

Oral steroids also impact on bone density, yes current day medicines tend to have a knock on affect while helping one illness creates another. ..

However.... not wanting to put all the mild illness and newbies off, it may never happen to you but certainly discuss with your doctor if you have further concerns about this.

then there is vitamin D3 deficiency, always worth getting that check so that levels are ok in order to help avoid bone thinning and other illnesses developing.

Oh what joy :)

As one consultant said to his patient when the patient querying and discussing the risk of developing other health conditions....

"do you want to breath or not" !

:D No matter the odds life can still be enjoyed with the right frame of mind :D

Hi Pat, not so good is it. I was in grief for the chocolate, but I am still having a naughty indulge so the grieving has eased some :)

Pete takes 10mg of steroids each day vittorio and has been told he’s pre-diabetic but not sure that’s because of steroids.

Wishing you better days ahead. Take care xxx😘

I should add vittorio ways to bring the blood glucose down even when the oral steroids are causing it is reducing all carbs and regular exercise, just do whatever you can. Its not easy controlling it when on the preds. Hope you are soon feeling a whole lot better.

I spent years on/off steroids for Crohn's Disease, sometimes 2 weeks on 40mg a day for 2 weeks, then slowly reducing. Have osteoporosis from this (lost 2" in height), also pre-diabetic. Once, on my new drug regime, and feeling dreadful, told Consultant how bad I felt, and he said " I am trying to give you 5 - 10 years more life", I snarled back " feeling like this I do not want it ". This shocked him and made him discuss my needs more openly with me. Sometimes they forget "informed consent". I am happier with my 2 side effects, because I now understand what would have happened without the meds.
