Currently in hospital my husband is frequently on oxygen due to oxygen desaturation on activity; how do others deal with this in the home?

I’m on oxygen whenever I move. It’s not easy but I’ve learnt to cope and my wife and family understand. Without O2 my SATs drop down to 80 with a gentle walk to the kitchen. Life can be very frustrating but I’ve learnt to live with it and try to be positive and look on the bright side of life. Take care and try to relax and stay positive.
My days drop ,when I told my oxygen nurse she got me a hand held fan and told me to use it when I sat down. It triggers your brain to remind you to breath. It does work , hope this helps have a good day and take care 😊 Bernadette and Jack 🐕 xxxxxx
I have been on oxygen 24/7 for almost 12 months now (4L at rest, 8-10L on exertion). It took a month or two to get used to but I barely notice it now except when it needs to be turned up for activity. I certainly couldn't do without it! Good luck.
Thinking of you.Hope you /hubby feel better soon.
Hi, I've been on ambulatory oxygen for about 6 months now and it has been really good at keeping my O2 levels up when moving about. Good luck. John
My husband has been using oxygen for five years now , he uses it mostly through the night and a few sessions through the day and evening. When he is moving from room to room or doing small diy jobs he finds that his o2 levels do drop but he can raise them within minutes by doing the breathing cycle recommended by the pulmonary physiotherapists , I believe you can find these simple exercises on line Hope this helps 😊
Hi Pippers. I use ambulatory oxygen and wouldn't be able to function without it. It means I can still do some household tasks and continue to be independent but I still have to pace myself. Wishing you and your husband all the best. Carol xxx
I desat to 76 walking around the house. Don’t you think I should be prescribed oxygen. .
I really do not know the guidelines but you need to ask your doctor. Take care and good luck.
