The Seoul metropolitan government will test pet cats and dogs for Covid-19 if they show symptoms, an official said Monday.

The new program will start the same day, several weeks after the country reported its first Covid-19 case involving a kitten in Jinju, South Gyeongsang.

Park Yoo-mi, a disease control official at the city government, said during a virtual press briefing that the tests will be conducted near the animal's home by a team of health workers including a veterinarian.

Only cats and dogs exhibiting symptoms, such as a fever, coughing, breathing difficulties and increased secretion from the eyes or nose, will be subject to the test, she said, adding that most pets have not shown symptoms.

I was thinking about it a while ago if any cats or dogs being tested. It is scary to know if your pet can actually get covid19. But to be in the safe side, to test them would be a good thing to do. Thanks for sharing the article 2 Grey's. 👍😁😘

The mind boggles as to how they would do that! Swabs up cats and dogs noses and backs of throats, rubber gloves won't cut it - they'll want gauntlets!😮😬

Any excuse to cull animals

I must admit that unsavoury thought crossed my mind when I first read it! If this ever came to anything, I am quite convinced there would be a lot of animals killed and not for the right reason in a lot of places.😢

whatever next ? I agree with Melnel if animals can get it testing has to be a good thing but with two french bulldogs ( a breed that has single handedly provided many a vet with a yacht in St Tropez , I personally have provided at least one sail ! ) I’m rushing off to up my pet insurance 🤦🏻‍♀️
